Baseball Takes Game One Against Bethel (Tenn.) in MSC Opening Round

(FLORENCE, Ky.)-No. 4 seed Thomas More University baseball team defeated No. 9 seed Bethel (Tenn.) in game one of the Mid-South Conference Opening Round on Friday evening (April 28) 8-0. The Saints overall record improve to 31-17.

How they scored
  • In the bottom of the third inning, junior Gavin Pearson (Burlington, Ky./Cooper) hit a sac fly to deep right field to send in junior Brady Baldock (Burlington, Ky./St. Henry) to put the Saints on the board 1-0.
  • Brady Baldock would score again in the bottom of the fifth inning off of a ball hit to the infield by sophomore Gavin Vogelgesang (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) to make it a 2-0 game. Graduate Student Bailey Martin (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) singled to left field to send in Gavin Vogelgesang to extend the saints lead to 3-0.
  • Sophomore AJ Enginger (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) hit a sac fly to deep left field to score senior Cooper Daniels (Franklin, Ohio/Franklin) in the bottom of the sixth (4-0).
  • Bailey Martin crushed a ball over the left center field fence for a two run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to put the Saints up 6-0.
  • In the bottom of the eighth, sophomore Brennan Martin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) closed out the scoring for the Saints with a two run home run over the right field fence to secure the Saints win (8-0).
  • Brady Baldock went 3-4 with a double and scored two runs.
  • Bailey Martin was 2-3 with one home run, three RBIs, and scored one run.
  • Senior Jacob Caruso (Rootstown, Ohio/Rootstown) went 2-4.
  • Brenna Martin hit a home run and went 1-2 with two RBIs, and scored one run.
  • Junior Mychal Grogan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) pitched a complete game, allowing no runs off of eight hits, and struck out nine.

The Saints return to action tomorrow (April 29) against No. 9 seed Bethel (Tenn.) in the MSC Opening Round with game two beginning at 12:00 pm ET and game three if necessary to follow.
