Baseball Closes Out Regular Season with Win Over Wilberforce

(FLORENCE, Ky.)-Thomas More University's baseball team defeated Wilberforce on Friday (April 21) 10-0 in seven innings, to close out their regular season. The Saints overall record improves to 30-17 and 16-10 in conference.

• In the bottom of the first inning, sophomore Brennan Martin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) hit a hard ball past the second baseman to score senior Derek Atwood (Burlington, Ky./Conner) to put the Saints on the board 1-0. Senior Cooper Daniels (Franklin, Ohio/Franklin) would score on a wild pitch to make it a 2-0 game. 
• First year Jeremy Ward (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) doubled to left field to send in sophomore Ben Duncan (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Bradley) to extend the Saints lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the second. Junior Gavin Pearson (Burlington, Ky./Cooper) hit a hard hit ball down the left field line to score Jeremy Ward (4-0). Graduate student (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) crushed a ball off of the center field fence for a triple to score Gavin Pearson (5-0). 
• Ben Duncan smashed a ball over the right field fence for a two run home run in the bottom of the third inning (5-0).
• In the bottom of the seventh inning, a tough play at third off of a ball hit by Bailey Martin would score Brady Baldock to make it a 8-0 game. Derek Atwood would single to left field to send in Ben Duncan to extend the Saints lead to 9-0. Senior Jacob Caruso (Rootstown, Ohio/Rootstown) would close things out for the Saints with a single to left field to score Bailey Martin for the 10-0 win over Wilberforce in seven innings.

• Bailey Martin went 3-4 at the plate with a triple, two RBIs, and scored one run.
• Gavin Pearson was 2-5 with one RBI and one run.
• Derek Atwood went 2-5 with a double, one RBI, and scored one RBI.
• Jacob Caruso was 2-3 with one RBI.
• Ben Duncan recorded two RBIs, going 2-3 at the plate with a home run, and scored three runs.

• Junior Landen Scott (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) pitched seven innings pitched, allowed zero runs off of three hits, and struck out six.

The Saints return to action next Friday (April 28) in the Opening Round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament at Thomas More Stadium with more information to come.
