(FLORENCE, Ky.) – The Thomas More University baseball team swept Wilberforce on Thursday (April, 20th) afternoon by scores of 16 to 1 and 11 to 1. Junior
Mychal Grogan (Cincinnati, Ohio / Elder) tallied 11 punch outs which gives him the new single season record for strikeouts in a season in program history. The Saints move to an overall record of 29-17 and a Mid South record of 15-10.
Game 1: Thomas More wins 11-1 (7 Innings)
- First year Jeremy Ward (Cincinnati, Ohio / Elder) hits a deep shot to left field for a 3 run homer to give Thomas more the lead. (3-0)
- Graduate student Bailey Martin (Independence, Ky. / Simon Kenton) kept the second inning going with a RBI single to extend the lead. (4-0)
- Wilberforce got a run back in the third inning. (4-1)
- Ward hit his second home run of the game to left field to lead off the 4th inning. (5-1)
- Sophomore Brennan Martin (Cincinnati, Ohio / Elder) hits a 3 RBI double to extend the Thomas More lead. (8-1)
- Junior Brady Baldock (Burlington, Ky. / St. Henry) hits a sacrifice fly for an RBI to score another run for the Saints in the 4th inning. (9-1)
- Sophomore Ben Duncan (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Bradley), Jeremy Ward. and senior Derek Atwood (Burlington, Ky. / Conner) each hit RBI singles and junior Gavin Pearson (Burlington, Ky. / Cooper) hits an RBI double to give Thomas More a 12 run lead. (13-1)
- Senior Jacob Caruso (Rootstown, Ohio / Rootstown) hits a three run home run in the 6th to make it a 15 run game. (16-1)
Game 2: Thomas More wins 11-1 (8 Innings)
- Wilberforce scored the first run of the game in the 5th inning. (0-1)
- Jacob Caruso gets the runs back with a 3 run home run in the bottom half of the fifth. (3-1)
- Sophomore AJ Enginger (Hamilton, Ohio / Badin) hits a single to left and ends up scoring off an error to extend the lead. (4-1)
- The Saints had a big 7th inning behind RBI singles from Brennan Martin and AJ Enginger before Brady Baldock hit a 2 run triple. (8-1)
- Derek Atwood hits a 2 RBI home run and senior Cooper Daniels (Franklin, Ohio / Franklin) gets walked to score the winning run in the 8th. (11-1)

- Jeremy Ward went 3-4 at the plate with 5 RBIs, 3 runs scored, and 2 home runs.
- Jacob Caruso went 1-3 with 3 RBIs, 2 walks, a run scored and a home run.
- Brennan Martin went 1-3 with 3 RBIs, a double, a walk and a run scored.
- Gavin Pearson went 2-4 at the plate with 2 runs scored, a RBI and a double.
- Derek Atwood went 2-3 with a walk, run scored, and a RBI.
- AJ Enginger went 2-3 at the plate with a walk.
Game 2:
- Derek Atwood goes 3-4 at the plate with 2 RBIs, 3 runs scored, a triple, home run and a walk.
- Jacob Caruso went 1-3 with 2 walks, 3 RBIs and a home run.
- AJ Enginger went 2-3 with an RBI, walk and 2 runs scored.
- Brady Baldock went 1-4 with 2 RBIs and a triple.
Game 1:
- Mychal Grogan goes the complete 7 innings for the Saints, allowing just 1 run on 2 hits and striking out 11. He sets the new single season strikeout record in program history. The win moves him to 8-1 on the season.
Game 2:
- Sophomore Austin Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio / Oak Hills) got the start for the Saints, pitching 7 complete innings, allowing 1 run on 6 hits and striking out 5. He picked up the win.
- Junior Zach Dugan (Cincinnati, Ohio / Elder) came in and pitched 1 inning of relief, allowing 2 hits and striking out 2.
The Saints return to the diamond tomorrow for game 3 of the series with Wilberforce. First pitch at Thomas More Stadium will be at 2:00PM ET.
