Baseball Run Rules Miami-Hamilton in 7- Innings

(FLORENCE, Ky.)-Thomas More University's baseball team defeated Miami-Hamilton on Tuesday afternoon (April 11) 19-9 in 7-innings. The Saints overall record improves to 26-14.How they scored
  • Miami-Hamilton scored three runs in the top of the first inning to give them the 0-3 lead.
  • In the bottom of the first inning, graduate student Bailey Martin (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) singled up left center to score junior Gavin Pearson (Burlington, Ky./Cooper) to put the Saints on the board 1-3. Senior Derek Atwood (Burlington, Ky./Conner) and senior Cooper Daniels (Franklin, Ohio/Franklin) scored off a dropped ball by the left fielder hit by sophomore Brennan Martin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) to tie the game up at 3-3.
  • Miami-Hamilton scored one run in the top of the second to give the Harriers the go ahead run once again (3-4).
  • Sophomore Ben Duncan (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Bradley) scored off a ground ball hit to the short stop by Gavin Pearson to tie the game back up in the bottom of the second (4-4).
  • Miami-Hamilton's first baseman would dive and knock down a hit ball by Ben Duncan in the bottom of the third but would be unable to get him out in time and would allow Derek Atwood to score for the go ahead lead (5-4). Sophomore Gavin Vogelgesang (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) walked to send in Brennan Martin to help extend the lead to 6-4.
  • Miami-Hamilton scored one run in the top of the fourth to put the Harriers within one (6-5).
  • In the bottom of the fourth inning, Brennan Martin singled up the middle to send in Derek Atwood to put the Saints up 7-5. Sophomore AJ Enginger (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) would step up to the plate next and hit a hard hit ball off the left field fence for a double, to send in Cooper Daniels and Brennan Martin to extend the lead to 9-5. Gavin Pearson would double down the left field line to score AJ Enginger and Brady Baldock to put the Saints up 11-5.
  • Miami-Hamilton scored one run in the top of the fifth inning (11-6).
  • Jacob Caruso would single up the middle in the bottom of the fifth inning to send home Derek Atwood (12-6). Miami-Hamilton's short stop would ground a hit ball by Brady Baldock but would not throw it in time to get out Cooper Daniels at home plate (12-6). Ben Duncan would ground out to the short stop but first year Gunner Kalkhoff (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle) would advance home and score to put the Saints up 14-6. AJ Enginger scored off an error by the short stop from a hit ball by Gavin Vogelgesang in the bottom of the fifth (15-6). The pitcher from Miami-Hamilton would then try to pick off Gavin Vogelgesang, but would over throw to the outfield for Brady Baldock to easily score (16-6). Gavin Vogelgesang scored the final run of the inning off of a hit ball by first year Jeremy Ward (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) to extend the lead to 17-6.
  • Miami-Hamilton scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning. 
  • Cooper Daniels grounded out to the second baseman in the bottom of the sixth inning but would advance Derek Atwood home to score and make it a 18-9 game. 
  • Sophomore Zak Schlachter (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) walked for the final at bat of the game to send in Gavin Vogelgesang to end the game in the bottom of the seventh inning (19-9).
  • Derek Atwood had a perfect day at the plate getting walked all four times he was up and scored five runs.
  • Jacob Caruso was 3-4 with one RBI.
  • Brady Baldock also had a perfect day at the plate going 3-3 with one RBI and scored two runs.
  • Gavin Vogelgesang went 2-5 with one RBI, one double, and scored two runs.
  • Gavin Pearson hit two doubles on the day, going 2-4 at the plate, recorded three RBIs, and scored one run.
  • Gunner Kalkhoff was 2-2 and scored one run.
  • AJ Enginger went 2-4 with two RBIs, one double, and scored two runs.
  • Ben Duncan was 2-3 with two RBIs and scored one run.
  • Brennan Martin wwnt 1-2 with one RBI and scored two runs.
  • Sophomore Jackson Grimmelsman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) pitched 1 inning, giving up three earned runs off of three hits, and struck out three.
  • First year Jack Perdue (Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy) pitched four innings, allowing four earned runs off of five hits, and struck out four.
  • Senior Conner Ryle (Union. Ky./Ryle) pitched 0.2 innings, giving up three earned runs off of four hits.
  • First year Ian Bierbaum (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle) pitched 1.1 innings, giving up no runs off of one hit, and struck out one.


The Saints return to action Friday (April 14) against #9 Cumberlands (Ky.) at 3:00 pm ET at Thomas More Stadium.
