(JACKSONVILLE, Fla.) – The Thomas More University men's volleyball team met the Edward Waters University Tigers Monday night for the first time in program history. They lost to the Tigers 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-23). Thomas More is now 9-7 overall this season.
- The opening set was tied 8-8 in the early going.
- Conner Young (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) had a pair of kills early in the match for the Saints.
- The Tigers then used a 7-2 run to take a 15-10 advantage.
- Thomas More clawed their way back to within two at 18-16.
- Ben Albers (Delhi, Ohio/Elder) had two kills during the rally.
- That was as close as they would get though, with the Tigers closing the set on a 7-3 run to take a 1-0 match lead.
- Set two was tied 7-7.
- A quick 4-0 Edward Waters rally put them up 11-7.
- Thomas More responded with a 3-0 flurry of their own, taking advantage of three Tiger attack errors to cut it to 11-10.
- However, a 10-3 Tigers run took away the Saints momentum and gave them a 21-13 lead they wouldn't relinquish, taking a 2-0 match lead.
- The final set was all square at 10-10.
- Thomas More took a 15-11 lead after two Mason Collver (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) kills and three attack errors fueled the rally.
- The Tigers would get back into it, and the set would be tied again at 19-19.
- Edward Waters took pair of a pair of Saints errors to help formulate a set-changing 4-0 run, taking a 23-19 lead.
- The Saints would fight back with a trio of kills to cut it to 24-23, but the Tigers would win the match on the next point to earn a 3-0 win.
- Albers led the team with eight kills.
- Young had 23 assists, his sixth match this season with 21 or more.
- Jonathan Litzler (Edgewood, Ky./St. Henry) led the team with eight digs.
- Caleb Lipscomb (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills/St. Francis Brooklyn College) had four total blocks (one solo, three assists).
- Dominic Rossi (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) had a pair of aces.
The Saints continue their spring break in Florida with a match against the Warner University Royals Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m., before ending their trip against the Webber International University Warriors on Thursday evening at 5:00 p.m.
