(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More University men's volleyball team won their final home match of the season Thursday night, 3-1 (18-25, 25-13, 25-22, 25-16) against the University of Rio Grande Red Storm in Mid-South Conference play. The Saints are now 12-10 overall this season and finish the season 6-4 in the MSC.
- The Red Storm got ahead right away in set one and never let the Saints come back to tie it up, as they took the first set.
- Thomas More dominated set two, taking a 9-3 lead.
- Both Cameron Ware (Pearland, Texas/Turner/Cincinnati Christian University) and Chris Carlson (Manila, Philippines/Brent International) had two kills at this point in the set.
- The Saints would hit .526 and get 12 kills to tie up the match at 1-1.
- The third set was the closest of them all.
- It was knotted up at 15-15, with neither team gaining more than a two-point advantage to this point in the set.
- The Saints would then grab the momentum with a 6-3 rally for a 21-18 lead.
- Ben Albers (Delhi, Ohio/Elder) had three kills to fuel this run.
- The Saints would hold off the Red Storm, recording 13 kills in the set to take a 2-1 lead.
- The final set was tied 6-6, before the Saints ripped off a 4-0 flurry for a 10-6 advantage.
- Conner Young (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) and Albers both had kills during the run.
- Their lead would grow to six at 18-12.
- The Red Storm would cut it to four at 19-15.
- A 6-1 Thomas More run ended the match, as they took advantage of several Red Storm mishaps.
- Albers led the Saints with 11 kills, his third match with 11 or more kills over the Saints last five contests.
- Ware was right behind him with a season-high 10 kills.
- Young had 21 assists, which was his ninth match this season with 21 or more assists.
- Eli Chambers (Eagle Rock, Calif./Eagle Rock/Santa Monica College) dished out 14 assists.
- Jacob Wehrman (Milford, Ohio/Milford) had three block solos.
- Jonathan Litzler (Edgewood, Ky./St. Henry) had a season-high 15 digs.
- The Saints hit over .300 as a team for the sixth-time this season, posting a mark of .344.
The Saints will travel to St. Louis, Missouri for a match with NCAA Division II foe Maryville University tomorrow night at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time. The Saints dropped their lone match with Maryville last season.
