Saints Offense Plates 10 in Midweek Victory Over UC-Clermont

(FLORENCE, Ky.) – The Thomas More University baseball team defeated UC-Clermont on Tuesday (March 21st) afternoon by a score of 10 to 1. The Saints recorded 19 hits as they picked up their 16th victory on the season. The Saints overall record improves to 16-11.

 

• Junior Gavin Pearson (Burlington, Ky. / Cooper) got the Saints started with an RBI double in the first inning to put the Saints out in front. (1-0)
• Senior Jacob Caruso (Rootstown, Ohio / Rootstown) had an RBI single that extended the Thomas More lead in the third inning. (2-0)
• Sophomore Zak Schlachter (Cincinnati, Ohio / Elder) scored a run on a ground out to give the Saints a 3 run lead. (3-0)
• UC-Clermont scored 1 run in the top of the 4th. (3-1)
• Senior Derek Atwood (Burlington, Ky. / Conner) hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score another Thomas More run. (4-1)
• Jacob Caruso followed with another sacrifice fly in the 5th inning to extend the Thomas More lead. (5-1)
• Junior Brady Baldock (Burlington, Ky. / St. Henry) reached on an error that also led to another Thomas More run to start off the 7th inning. (6-1)
• First year Gunner Kalkhoff (Cincinnati, Ohio / LaSalle) singled to bring home another Thomas More run. (7-1)
• Sophomore AJ Enginger (Hamilton, Ohio / Badin) singled to bring home another run and push the lead to 7. (8-1)
• In the 8th inning, Brady Baldock hits a sacrifice fly to bring in another Thomas More run. (9-1)
• Gunner Kalkhoff followed with an RBI single to make it a 9 run game. (10-1)

 

• Graduate Student Bailey Martin (Independence, Ky. / Simon Kenton) went 3-5 at the plate with 2 runs scored and a double. 
• Derek Atwood went 3-4 at the plate with an RBI and 3 runs scored.
• Jacob Caruso went 3-4 at the plate with 2 RBIs.
• Sophomore Gavin Vogelgesang (Cincinnati, Ohio / St. Xavier) went 2-5 at the plate with a run scored.
• Gavin Pearson went 2-4 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored.
• Gunner Kalkhoff went 2-2 at the plate with 2 RBIs.

 

• Junior Landen Scott (Independence, Ky. / Simon Kenton) started the game and pitched 4.0 innings for the Saints. He gave up 1 run on 2 hits and struck out 2.
• First year Kellen Sandhas (Cincinnati, Ohio / Elder) pitched 2.0 innings of shutout baseball, allowing 1 hit and striking out 2. He got the win.
• Junior Mason Berger (Cincinnati, Ohio / Elder) pitched 2.0 innings of perfect baseball and struck out 1.
• Graduate student Justin Bierbaum (Bridgetown, Ohio / LaSalle) 1.0 innings and struck out 1.

 

The Saints are back in action tomorrow as they travel to face off against Miami-Hamilton. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 PM ET.
