Men's Volleyball Loses To Central State Saturday Afternoon

(WILBERFORCE, Ohio) – The Thomas More University men's volleyball team lost to the Central State University Marauders Saturday afternoon on the road, 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 29-27). This loss drops the Saints to 11-9 overall this season.

 
  • The Marauders grabbed all the momentum in set one, taking an 11-4 lead and never looking back.
  • Mason Collver (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) led the Saints with three kills in the set.
  • The Saints fell behind 14-7 in set two.
  • Thomas More used a 4-1 flurry to cut the lead to 15-11, but that was as close as they would get.
  • Both Ben Albers (Delhi, Ohio/Elder) and Jacob Wehrman (Milford, Ohio/Milford) had three kills in the set.
  • The final set was back and forth.
  • The Saints could only manage a two-point advantage until the score was tied at 15-15.
  • Led by three Central State mistakes, a 4-1 run gave the Saints a 19-16 lead.
  • They would continue to hold the lead until the Marauders inched ahead with a 3-0 flurry to make it a match point at 24-23.
  • The teams would continue to trade points, with the Saints earning a set point at 26-25.
  • However, Central State would end the match with a 4-1 run to win 3-0.

 
  • Wehrman led the Saints with nine kills on 10 swings.
  • Conner Young (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) dished out 23 assists, his eighth match with 21 or more assists this season.
  • Caleb Lipscomb (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills/St. Francis Brooklyn College) and Collver both had two block solos, while Wehrman also added one.
  • Jonathan Litzler (Edgewood, Ky./St. Henry) led the Saints with six digs while Young added five.

 

The Saints will look to get back in the win column on Tuesday evening. They take on the No. 7 ranked Georgetown College Tigers in Mid-South Conference play in the Connor Convocation Center at 6:00 p.m.
