(MIDWAY, Ky.) – The Thomas More University men's volleyball team ran past the Midway University Eagles Thursday night, 3-1 (25-20, 20-25, 25-13, 25-18) in a Mid-South Conference matchup. This win improves Thomas More to 11-8 overall this season and 5-3 in the MSC.
- Thomas More took a 15-8 lead in the first set.
- Five different Saints already had a kill at this point in the set.
- The Eagles came all the way back, using an 8-1 rally to tie the match at 16-16.
- Thomas More didn't panic though, immediately going on a 5-0 run to take a 21-16 lead.
- Will Busken (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) had two kills during the flurry.
- The Saints would hold off the Eagles and take a 1-0 match lead.
- They hit .414 in the set.
- The Saints grabbed a 12-8 advantage in set two thanks to kills from five different players.
- The Saints would continue to hold a slight lead throughout the set and eventually led 17-15.
- Just like the Saints did in set one, Midway turned the tables and used a 5-0 run of their own to take a 20-17 lead at a crucial point in the set.
- They would ride the momentum to a 25-20 win and tie the match at 1-1.
- Thomas More dominated set three, taking a 14-4 lead, and used several Eagle mistakes.
- The lead grew to 19-8.
- They would win the set 25-13, and hit .500 in the process, making just two errors.
- The final set was jump-started by a 6-0 Saints run after the score was tied at four, taking a 10-4 advantage.
- This would prove to be too much for Midway, as Thomas More would win the match after a 25-18 set victory.
- The Saints five conference wins are their most in program history.
- Their .370 hitting percentage is a season-high.
- Ben Albers (Delhi, Ohio/Elder) led the team with 11 kills, his second straight match with 11 or more kills and fourth this season.
- Conner Young (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) had 18 assists while Eli Chambers (Eagle Rock, Calif./Eagle Rock/Santa Monica College) had 13.
- Albers and Jonathan Litzler (Edgewood, Ky./St. Henry) both tied with a match-high six digs.
The Saints travel to Central State University for the last match of their five-match road trip on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. They defeated the Marauders earlier this season, 3-1 in the Connor Convocation Center on February 7th.
