Baseball Takes Game One of Series Against RV Freed Hardeman

(HENDERSON, Tenn.)-Thomas More University's baseball team defeated RV Freed Hardeman on Friday evening (March 10) 9-1 . The Saints overall record improves to 11-9 and 4-3 in conference.
How they scored
  • In the top of the fourth inning, graduate student Bailey Martin (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) homered to left field to put the Saints on the board 1-0. Senior Derek Atwood (Burlington, Ky./Conner) would step up to the plate and hit a three-run home run to right center and score senior Jacob Caruso (Rootstown, Ohio/Rootstown) and sophomore Brennan Martin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) (4-0).
  • Freed Hardeman scored one run in the bottom of the fifth inning (4-1).
  • In the top of the sixth inning, senior Noah Weingartner (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle) scored on a fielder's choice hit by sophomore AJ Enginger (Hamilton, Ohio/ Badin) to put the Saints up 5-1. Junior Brady Baldock (Burlington, Ky./St. Henry) would step up to the plate and hit a fielder's choice to send home Derek Atwood to extend the lead to 6-1. Junior Gavin Pearson (Burlington, Ky./Cooper) would score on a wild pitch in the top of the sixth (7-1).
  • Gavin Pearson hit a sac fly to center field to send in Noah Weingartner in the top of the seventh to make it a 8-1 game. 
  • Sophomore Gavin Vogelgesang (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) walked in to extend the lead to 9-1 in the top of the eighth inning.
  • Junior Mychal Grogan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) pitched 8.0 innings, giving up one earned run off of five hits and struck out five. 
  • Junior Zach Dugan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) pitched 1 inning, giving up no runs and no hits, and struck out two.
