Baseball Splits their Opening Day in Johnson City

(JOHNSON CITY, Tenn.)-Thomas More University baseball team split their opening series on Saturday (February 4) falling 6-1 to IU South bend and defeating WVU Tech 7-6. The Saints overall record improves to 1-1.

How they scored
Game 1:
  • IU South Bend scored one run in the bottom of the first inning (0-1).
  • IU South Bend scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning (0-3).
  • IU South Bend scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning (0-6).
  • In the top of the 7th inning, junior Brady Baldock (Burlington, Ky./St. Henry) singled up the middle to send in sophomore Ben Duncan (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Bradley) for an RBI single (1-6).
Game 2:
  • In the top of the first inning, senior Derek Atwood (Burlington, Ky./Conner) hit a triple to center field for an RBI triple to send in sophomore AJ Enginger (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) and junior Gavin Pearson (Burlington, Ky./Cooper) to put the Saints on the board 2-0.
  • WVU Tech scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning (2-4).
  • Derek Atwood hit a sac fly to right field to score Gavin Pearson to put the Saints within one (3-4).
  • WVU Tech would score one run in the bottom of the third inning (2-5).
  • WVU Tech scored one run in the fourth inning (2-6).

  • Junior Landen Scott (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) pitched 3 innings, giving up six earned runs off of seven hits and struck out four.
  • Sophomore Austin Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) pitched 3.0 innings, giving up zero runs and zero hits and struck out four.
  • Fifth year Justin Bierbaum (Bridgetown, Ohio/La Salle) pitched 1.0 giving up zero runs and hits with one strike out and got the save for the Saints.
