(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More University men's volleyball team improved to 9-4 overall Monday night and 3-2 in the Mid-South Conference with a 3-1 (25-17, 25-15, 28-30, 25-19) win over the Midway University Eagles. Their nine wins ties for their most victories in program history.
- Set one was all tied up at 12-12, before the Saints exploded for a 10-2 run to grab all the momentum and hold a 22-14 advantage.
- The run was led by a pair of kills from Cameron Ware (Pearland, Texas/Turner/Cincinnati Christian University) and Ben Albers (Delhi, Ohio/Elder).
- The Saints would take the set for a 1-0 lead.
- Thomas More jumped all over the Eagles in the second set, turning a 5-0 lead into an eventual 18-7 advantage.
- Albers, Jacob Wehrman (Milford, Ohio/Milford), and Caleb Lipscomb (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills/St. Francis Brooklyn College) all had two kills to help Thomas More gain this lead. Lipscomb also had a solo block and a block assist.
- The Saints cruised to the finish line for a 2-0 match lead.
- Just like on Saturday against Reinhardt University, the third set was a wild one.
- Neither team could gain a distinct advantage, as they traded points throughout.
- Thomas More had a chance to put the match away at 24-23, but a key Midway timeout calmed them down.
- The Eagles fought off the set point and another one from the Saints and tied things at 25-25.
- Thomas More eventually found themselves at a 27-26 set point, but an attack error by Midway kept the set going.
- The Saints wouldn't be able to hold on and were forced to a fourth set.
- They took a 19-10 lead in the final set.
- The set was highlighted by a 9-0 Saints run that consisted of six Eli Chambers (Eagle Rock, Calif./Eagle Rock/Santa Monica College) service aces and four straight.
- The Saints would win the set 25-19 and the match 3-1.
- Albers led the way with 11 kills, tying his season-high from Saturday afternoon against Reinhardt.
- Eight Saints had at least three kills in the match.
- Jonathan Litzler (Edgewood, Ky./St. Henry) led the match with 12 digs.
- Chambers led the team with 17 assists, while Conner Young (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) had 13 and Landon Tackett (Pickerington. Ohio/Pickerington Central) had 10.
- Chambers had an impressive eight aces in the match, while the Saints had a season-high 13 as a team.
- The Saints also had a season-high 44 assists and tied their season-high with 46 kills.
- They had 42 digs as a team, their third match this season with 42 or more.
- They had 12 block assists, their sixth match this season with 10 or more.
Thomas More travels to Campbellsville University Thursday for a battle with the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. They bested the Tigers 3-0 on February 10th, which was their first win against Campbellsville in program history.
