(RIO GRANDE, Ohio) – The Thomas More University men's volleyball team picked up a road Mid-South Conference win over the University of Rio Grande Red Storm Tuesday night, 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-22). The Saints improved to 7-2 overall this season and 2-1 in the MSC.
- The first set was back and forth, with the Red Storm leading most of the way until it was 18-18.
- Two Rio Grande attack errors finished up a small 3-0 Saints run, giving them a 20-18 advantage.
- They would ride this momentum to a 24-19 and eventual 25-20 set win.
- Senior Jacob Wehrman (Milford, Ohio/Milford) had two kills during the final stretch of the set.
- Thomas More grabbed a quick 7-2 lead in the second set.
- Junior Mason Collver (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) had two kills to this point.
- The Red Storm began to claw back but could never tie the set or take the lead.
- The lead was eventually 22-21 but kills from Dominic Rossi (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) and Ben Albers (Delhi, Ohio/Elder) along with a Rio Grande error ended the set.
- The Red Storm jumped out to a 14-8 third-set advantage.
- A 4-0 Thomas More run ensued to make it 14-12, with help from two Rossi kills.
- The Red Storm would stretch their lead back out to 19-14.
- An 8-1 run that was littered with Red Storm errors fueled the Saints comeback and gave them a 22-20 lead.
- They wouldn't relinquish the lead in the 25-22 set win and 3-0 match victory.
- Wehrman had a team-high 12 kills on 18 swings (.667), which is the most kills for any Saint so far this season.
- Jonathan Litzler (Edgewood, Ky./St. Henry) had 12 digs and Albers had 10.
- Conner Young (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) had his fourth match this season with 22 or more assists, as he had 22 against the Red Storm.
- Eli Chambers (Eagle Rock, Calif./Eagle Rock/Santa Monica College) had a season-high 16 assists.
- The Saints had 17 block assists, their fourth match with 10 or more block assists.
- Thomas More hit .352 as a team, their third match this season hitting .338 or better.
The Saints are right back on the floor Thursday night at Georgetown College (Ky.) at 6:00 p.m. The Tigers are currently ranked No. 7 in the NAIA.
