Saints Swept By Tigers Thursday Night

(GEORGETOWN, Ky.) – The Thomas More men's volleyball team lost to the No. 7 Georgetown College Tigers Thursday night in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym, 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-18). The Saints fall to 7-3 overall and 2-2 in the Mid-South Conference.

 
  • The first set was all knotted up at 14-14.
  • Junior Mason Collver (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) had four kills to lead the Saints to this point.
  • Thomas More hung tough and was trailing 18-17 in the set.
  • A 4-0 Tiger run took away any momentum the Saints had as they dropped the first set 25-20.
  • Georgetown took an 8-2 lead in set two.
  • A 5-1 Saints run that took advantage of Tiger mistakes cut the lead to 9-7.
  • The Tigers would retake a five-point advantage at 17-12.
  • The Saints kept clawing back, eventually cutting the lead to two at 23-21.
  • Caleb Lipscomb (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills/St. Francis Brooklyn College) had two kills to help Thomas More get back into it.
  • However, Georgetown would halt the rally and win the set.
  • The Saints dug themselves into a 19-9 hole in the third set, that they would never get out of in their eventual set loss to end the match.

 
  • Collver and Ben Albers (Delhi, Ohio/Elder) led Thomas More with seven kills each.
  • Collver hit .400 while Albers hit .357.
  • Conner Young (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) had 14 assists and Eli Chambers (Eagle Rock, Calif./Eagle Rock/Santa Monica College) had 10.
  • This is the sixth match in a row where the Saints have had two or more players with double-digit assists.
  • Albers led the Saints with six digs.

 

The Saints return to the Connor Convocation Center Saturday morning, where they host a tri-match with the Carlow University Celtics and Reinhardt University Eagles. They play Carlow at 9:00 a.m. and Reinhardt at 1:00 p.m.
