Baseball Sweeps Blue Mountain Christian To Open the Weekend

(BLUE MOUNTAIN, MS.)-Thomas More University baseball team complete a sweep of Friday's (February, 17th) doubleheader against Blue Mountain Christian. The victories move the Saints to an overall record of 6-3 on the season. The Saints took game one by a score of 9 to 3 behind junior Mychal Grogan's (Cincinnati, Ohio / Elder) 6 innings on the mound. The Saints came back and took game two by a score of 5 to 2.

How they scored
Game 1:
  • Graduate Bailey Martin (Independence, Ky. / Simon Kenton) hits a ground ball to bring sophomore Gavin Vogelgesang (Cincinnati, Ohio / St. Xavier) home to take an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
  • Blue Mountain Christian scores three runs off a home run in the bottom of the 2nd to take a 3-1 lead.
  • Senior Derek Atwood (Burlington, Ky. / Conner) hits a three run triple in the top of the 6th inning to put the Saints back out in front 4 to 3.
  • Sophomore Brennan Martin (Cincinnati, Ohio / Elder) singles to right field and brings home Derek Atwood to make the score 5 to 3 in the 6th inning.
  • In the 7th inning Bailey Martin doubles to center and brings home 2 runs to extend the Saints lead to 8-3.
  • Sophomore AJ Enginger (Hamilton, Ohio / Badin) singles to center and scores Bailey Martin to make it a 9-3 game.
Game 2:
  • In the top of the 4th inning, Bailey Martin breaks a scoreless game with a double to center to give the Saints a 2-0 lead.
  • Blue Mountain Christian gets one run back in the bottom half of the 4th to make it 2-1.
  • Gavin Vogelgesang singles to right field and brings home senior Noah Weingartner (Cincinnati, Ohio / LaSalle) to put the Saints lead back to 2.
  • Blue Mountain Christian answers with a run in the bottom of the 5th to make it a 3-2 game.
  • In the bottom of the 6th, Brennan Martin singles to right and scores two more runs to make it a 5-2 game.

  • Mychal Grogan pitched 6.0 innings, allowing 3 earned runs off 5 hits and striking out 7. He earned his second win on the season to move to 2-1.
  • First year Kellen Sandhas (Cincinnati, Ohio / Elder) pitched 1.0 inning of shutout baseball. Giving up only 1 hit.
Game 2
  • Junior Mason Berger (Cincinnati, Ohio / Elder) pitched 3.0 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 3 hits and recording a strikeout. He earned the win to move his record to 1-2.
  • Junior Zach Dugan (Cincinnati, Ohio / Elder) pitched 2.0 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 2 hits and recording 3 strikeouts.
  • Sophomore Austin Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio / Oak Hills) pitched 1.0 innings of shutout baseball, recording 2 strikeouts.
  • Fifth year Justin Bierbaum (Bridgetown, Ohio / LaSalle) pitched a perfect inning, recording 2 strikeouts and picking up the save.
