Saints Come Up Short on Homecoming Against Hillsdale

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY) - The Thomas More football team fell to Hillsdale College on Saturday (October, 21st) afternoon by a score of 35 to 33. The Saints drop to 4-4 overall on the season and 3-3 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play.

  • Thomas More took the ball first and scored an opening touchdown on a four yard run by sophomore Jaden Hall (Springfield, OH / Springfield). Sophomore Luke Iden (Taylor Mill, KY / Scott) made the PAT to make it 7-0 Thomas More.
  • Hillsdale answered with a 33 yard touchdown pass to tie it at 7.

  • Hillsdale opened the second quarter with a 28 yard touchdown pass to take a 14 to 7 lead.
  • Thomas More responded as redshirt junior Rae'Von Vaden (Louisville, KY / Marion C. Moore) finds first year Evan Brown (Lexington, KY / Lexington Christian Academy) for a 25 yard touchdown. Iden made the PAT to tie it at 14.
  • Vaden would then find redshirt first year Ish Moss (Columbus, OH / Canal Winchester) for a 42 yard score. An Iden PAT gave Thomas More a 21 to 14 lead.
  • Hillsdale scored with 10 seconds to go in the half on a 28 yard pass to tie it at 21 at the break.
  • Hillsdale opened the third quarter with a touchdown drive that was capped off by a 9 yard pass to take a 28 to 21 lead.
  • Hillsdale would score again in the final minute of the quarter to extend their lead to 35 to 21.

  • Vaden crossed the goal line on a 2 yard rush to get Thomas More within 8, following a blocked PAT. 
  • In the final seconds of the game, Vaden scores on a 6 yard run to get the Saints within two, but fail to get the 2-point conversion making it 35 to 33.

  • Vaden finished the game with 240 yards in the air and 2 touchdowns and 85 yards on the ground and 2 touchdowns.
  • Hall recorded 45 rushing yards and a touchdown for the Saints. 
  • Brown saw 13 targets and 8 catches for 115 yards and a score.
  • Graduate student Del Thomas (Fairfield, OH / Fairfield) led the defense with 8 total tackles in the game, including one for a loss.

The football team will return to action next Saturday (October, 28th) when they travel to Ashland, OH to take on the Ashland Eagles. Kick-off is set for 1:00 PM.
