(Campbellsville, KY) – The Thomas More University football team moved to 1-0 in the Mid-South Conference Saturday night on the road at Campbellsville University, defeating the Tigers 44-36.
How It Happened
After trailing 7-0 after the first quarter, the Saints got their scoring started in the second with a seven-play drive that was capped off by a
Rae'Von Vaden to
Preston Agee 16-yard touchdown pass to tie things up at 7-7.
After
Vuk Sajlovic forced a fumble on the first play of the ensuing Tiger drive and the ball was recovered by
Tanner Lawrence, the Saints got the ball inside Campbellsville territory. Two long rushes and a pass interference set the Saints up at the Tigers five-yard line. Three plays later, Agee was in the endzone for his second touchdown of the game off a three-yard toss from Vaden. This gave the Saints a lead they would never relinquish throughout the remainder of the game. After a field goal from both teams, the score would favor Thomas More 17-10 at halftime.
The Saints got the third quarter started with an 85-yard strike, their longest play from scrimmage of the season to
Roques Dowdy on the second play of the half to give them a 24-10 advantage. A
Blaine Espinosa rushing touchdown would give the Saints a 31-13 lead that would be brought to 31-20 heading into the final quarter.
Vaden would score two times on the ground in the fourth quarter, giving Thomas More a 44-20 lead. The Tigers would try to make things interesting with a pair of touchdowns late in the quarter, but the Saints would hold on for the 44-36 victory.
