(Crestview Hills, KY) – The Thomas More University women's volleyball team won their Mid-South Conference opener Thursday night in the Connor Convocation Center, 3-1 (25-16, 15-25, 25-13, 25-21). They return to the court on Saturday when they host the University of Pikeville.
How It Happened
The Saints jumped out to a 12-6 lead in the first set and never looked back. A trio of
Ebony Gomez kills led the charge to take the six-point advantage. The Bears were never able to threaten during the set as Thomas More took the 1-0 match lead.
The second set was tied at 7-7 before an 11-3 Bears run turned the momentum completely in Shawnee State's favor, as they would take the set and tie things up 1-1. The Saints dominated set three and took a 2-1 match lead. Three Gomez and
Ally Albrinck kills led the way in the third set.
The final set was all tied up at 21-21 before a 4-0 Saints flurry would end the match with a 25-21 set win and a 3-1 victory for Thomas More.
Sawyer Lorentz had two kills during the stretch while
Sam McClanahan had a crazy kill to end the match. Shawnee State took a swing and McClanahan dug it out over the net, with the ball barely managing to stay in for the final point.
