Crestview Hills, Ky. - The women's basketball program at Thomas More takes down Grand View by a score of 86-62 in the finals of the opening round to advance to Sioux City, Iowa for the Round of 16.
- Graduate student Alexah Chrisman (Greendale, Ind./McAuley) would get the scoring started by backing down her defender in the post for two to make the score 2-0.
- Junior guard Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) splashed home a three-pointer at the 6:30 mark in the first quarter to give Thomas More a 10-6 lead.
- Sophomore Alex Smith (Cincinnati, Oho/Mercy McAuley) a three via an Emily Simon (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) assist with 45 seconds remaining in the first to push the Saints lead to 20-14.
- Junior Summer Secrist (Taylor Mill, Ky./Scott) would pick the oppositions pocket and take it all the way for a layup to extend the lead to 23-17.
- Sophomore Kelly Brenner (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) would push the lead to 14 as she would hit a running floater to make the score 37-23 with 3:51 to go in the half.
- Simon and Brenner would score layups on back-to-back possessions to end the half with a 41-26 lead.
- Brenner would come out of the locker room firing as she hit a three off a feed from Hurst to make the score 44-26.
- Senior guard Taylor Clos (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) would drive past her defender to grow the lead to 22.
- Secrist would close out the third period with a free throw to make the score 72-44 after three.
- Simon would back her defender down in the post and power through for a bucket to open up the fourth and keep the lead at 28.
- First-year Callie Hunt (Trenton, Ohio / Edgewood) would score a layup as sophomore guard Rachel Martin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) would find her on a back cut to make the score 82-58 with 2:33 remaining in the game.
- Senior Heaven Evans (Cincinnati, Ohio/DePaul Cristo Rey) would sink a free throw to help close out the game for Thomas More helping them push to an 86-62 win.
- Barth led the team in scoring with 15 and also picked up four steals.
- Smith also posted a 15 point game while grabbing eight boards to help lead the Saints.
- Secrist nearly posted a double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds.
- Simon posted a solid game with seven points, five rebounds, and three assists.
- The Saints shot 34-65 from the floor for a 52.3% rate.
- Thomas More only turned the ball over seven times in the game.
Women's basketball will return to the court on Thursday, March 17 in Sioux City, Iowa where they will face the winner of Bryan/Pikeville at 7 p.m. ET.
