Thomas More Falls on the Road at No. 4 Lindsey Wilson

(COLUMBIA, Ky.) – The Thomas More University football team fell, 52-20, to fourth-ranked Lindsey Wilson College tonight (Friday, March 19, 2021) in a Mid-South Conference Bluegrass Division game at Blue Raider Stadium in Columbia, Kentucky.

  • Lindsey Wilson took a 7-0 lead with 13:31 to play in the first quarter when Jaylen Boyd scored on a four-yard run and Ian Sauter added the point-after-attempt.
  • The Saints tied the game at 7-7 when first-year quarterback Blaine Espinosa (Cookeville, Tenn./Cookeville) connected on a 14-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Craig Wills (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) and junior place kicker Alexander Haley (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) added the PAT with 5:23 to play in the opening quarter.

  • Haley gave the Saints a 10-7 lead with 13:06 to play in the second quarter when he connected on a 29-yard field goal.
  • The Blue Raiders took a 14-10 lead when Cameron Dukes connected on an 18-yard touchdown pass to Logan Neufeld and Sauter added the PAT with 10:58 to play in the quarter.
  • On a fourth down, Espinosa found senior wide receiver Charles Gaines (Elsmere, Ky./Lloyd Memorial) in the endzone for a five-yard touchdown pass and Haley added the PAT to give Thomas More a 17-14 lead with 5:29 to play in the second quarter.
  • Lindsey Wilson tied the game at 17-17 at halftime as Sauter made a 22-yard field goal as time expired in the second quarter.

  • Lindsey Wilson's Cameron Thurman had a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown and Sauter added the PAT to give the Blue Raiders a 24-17 lead with 14:48 to play in the third quarter.
  • The Saints cut the lead to 24-20 when Haley made a 28-yard field goal with 11:03 to play in the quarter.
  • Boyd scored on a six-yard run and Sauter added the PAT with 9:45 to play in the third quarter to extend the Blue Raiders' lead to 31-20.
  • The Blue Raiders increase the lead to 38-20 with 8:34 to play in the third quarter when Dukes connected on a 27-yard touchdown pass to Terrill Cole and Sauter added the PAT.
  • Lindsey Wilson extended the lead to 45-20 when Dukes connected on a 43-yard touchdown pass to Cole and Sauter added the PAT with 2:04 to play in the third quarter.

  • Kobe Belcher scored on a two-yard run and Sauter added the PAT to increase the lead to 52-20 with 10:27 to play in the game.

  • Thomas More falls to 2-3 on the season.
  • Lindsey Wilson improves to 5-0.
  • The Blue Raiders out-gained the Saints 457 yards (133 rushing/324 passing) to 361 yards (90 rushing/271 passing.
  • Espinosa was 23-of-44 passing for 271 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Gaines led the receivers with eight catches for 108 yards and one touchdown.
  • Sophomore wide receiver Roques Dowdy (Athens, Ga./Oconee County) had two catches for 70 yards.
  • Wills had seven catches for 47 yards and one touchdown.
  • Sophomore running back Maleek Jarrett (Hamilton, Ohio/Hamilton) had 11 carries for 55 yards.
  • First-year defensive lineman Tanner Lawrence (Melbourne, Ky./Campbell County) had seven tackles (five solo/two assisted).
  • First-year defensive lineman Vuk Sajjlovic (Edgewood, Ky./Simon Kenton) finished with seven tackles (three solo/four assisted).
  • Sophomore linebacker Del Thomas (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) had seven tackles (three solo/four assisted).
  • First-year defensive back Kolton Reeves (Paducah, Ky./McCracken County) added six tackles (four solo/two assisted).

  • The Saints are idle next week and will return to action on April 2 when they host Georgetown College at 7 p.m. at BB&T Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
