(HONOLULU, Hi.)-#3 Thomas More Women's Basketball defeated Doane on Saturday afternoon (Dec. 18), 92-54 in day one of the Hoop N Surf Classic in Honolulu, Hi. The Saints overall record improves to 11-1.
- Graduate student Alexah Chrisman (Greendale, Ind./McAuley) kicked the day off for the Saints by making a layup to put the Saints on the board (2-2) with 9:00 to play in the first quarter.
- Senior Taylor Clos (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) would make a layup with 4:23 to play in the first quarter to extend the Saints lead to 13-4.
- Sophomore Kelly Brenner (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) would drain a 3-point jump shot with 1:10 to play in the first quarter to close out the scoring for the Saints in the quarter (16-10.
- With 9:56 into the second quarter, junior Summer Secrist (Taylor Mill, Ky./Scott) drove to the rim for a layup to start the scoring off for the Saints in the second quarter (18-10).
- Clos made a three point jump shot with 3:12 to play in the quarter to extend the Saints lead to 34-15.
- Brenner would swish another 3-point shot with four seconds left on the clock to secure the Saints 42-19 lead going into the locker room at halftime.
- Brenner led the Saints with 12 points and had two rebounds.
- Clos followed with seven points and one rebound and led the team with four assists in the first half.
- Junior Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas/Highlands) also recorded four assists to lead the team.
- Chrisman led the team defensively with nine rebounds and had six points.
- The Saints were 47.4% from the field and 35.3% (6-17) from the 3-point line in the first half.
- Clos would start the second half off for the Saints making a jump shot to extend the Saints lead with 8:41 to play in the quarter (44-21).
- Junior transfer Sammi Whiteman drained a 3-point shot with 6:34 to play in the quarter (49-25).
- Sophomore transfer Alex Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) would make a layup with 57 seconds to play in the quarter to give the Saints a 62-34 lead going into the final quarter.
- First year Callie Hunt (Trenton, Ohio/Edgewood) started the fourth quarter off with a 3-point jumper to extend the Saints lead to 65-34 with 9:31 to play.
- With 6:47 to play in the game, sophomore Mattison Vickers (Covington, Ky./Simon Kenton) would swish a 3-pointer for her first of four threes made in the game (73-37).
- Senior Heaven Evans (Cincinnati, Ohio/DePaul Cristo Rey) closed out the scoring for the Saints making a 3-point shot to secure the Saints win (92-54).
- Vickers led the Saints in the second half with 12 points and had two rebounds.
- Chrisman followed with seven points and one assist and led the team with five rebounds.
- Junior Kenzie Schwarber (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) tallied three assists to lead the team in the second half.
- The Saints were 52.9% (18-34) from the field, 52.4% (11-21) from the 3-point line, and 100% (3-3) from the free throw line in the second half.
- Brenner recorded 17 points to lead the way for the Saints and three rebounds and an assist.
- Vickers followed with 12 points and two rebounds.
- Chrisman tallied 13 points and one assist while bringing down 14 rebounds.
- Smith followed with six rebounds, five points, and two assists.
- Barth led the Saints with six assists.
- The Saints were 50% (36-72) from the field, 44.7% (17-38) from the 3-point line, and 75% (3-3) from the free throw line.
