Box Score (Portsmouth, Ohio) – The Thomas More men's basketball program traveled to Portsmouth Ohio on Monday (January 4) to take on Mid-South foe Shawnee State. The Saints would fall 81-57 dropping their record to 3-3 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
- Redshirt Junior Ryan Batte (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) would make a layup off an assist from junior Logan Swackhammer (Chillicothe, Ohio/Unioto) to start the scoring for TMU and tie the game at 2 with one minute off the clock.
- Sophomore Reid Jolly (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) made a jump shot with 16:40 remaining in the first making the score 10-6 in favor of Shawnee State.
- Senior Luke Rudy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) would score back-to-back three-pointers for his first points of the season bringing Thomas More within 1 point with 4:30 remaining in the first half.
- Saints trailed 36-26 at the half.
- Senior Garren Bertsch (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) made a three-pointer with 18:30 remaining to bring the Saints back within 3 making the score 36-33 SSU.
- Jolly made back-to-back layups to bring Thomas More back within 12 with 13:50 remaining in the game after a run by Shawnee State.
- Batte would make a shot with 7:10 remaining in the game making the score 63-44 Bears.
- First-Year Jalen Scott (Hebron, Ky./Conner) made a three-pointer with 30 seconds remaining making the final score 81-57 in favor of Shawnee State.
- Batte led the team in scoring with 16 points.
- Bertsch and Jolly scored 10 each.
- Jolly led team in rebounds with 8.
The men's basketball team will return to action on Thursday January 7, where they will host the Campbellsville Tigers at the Connor Convocation Center with tip off set for 6 p.m. ET.
