Women's Basketball Capture Big Win on the Road Over Indiana Wesleyan

(Marion, Ind.) - The Thomas More women's basketball team pick up shorthanded win over Indiana Wesleyan by a score of 74-71 moving them to 7-0 to start the 2020-21 campaign.

  • Sophomore Emily Simon (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) started the scoring for the Lady Saints sinking two free throws with 8:39 remaining in the first quarter.
  • Junior Taylor Clos (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) made a lay-up with 2 seconds remaining making the score 6-16 in favor of the Wildcats.
  • Clos would score 8 of the first 10 in the second to tie the game for TMU at 16-16 with 7:20 remaining in the quarter.
  • First-Year Kelly Brenner (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) made a three-pointer with 8 seconds remaining in the half giving Thomas More the lead at the half 35-29.

  • Sophomore Summer Secrist (Taylor Mill, Ky./Scott) would score 6 straight points in the third giving the Lady Saints a 45-39 lead with 4:30 remaining in the third quarter. 
  • Senior Briana McNutt (Maysville, Ky./Mason County) extened the lead to 9 for TMU with two free throws with 36 seconds left in the third quarter.
  • Senior Hayden White (Milford, Ohio/Milford) scored an and 1 putting the Lady Saints up 7 with 7:10 remaining in the game. 
  • Simon would come up clutch for Thomas More scoring 4 big points in the final seconds helping give TMU a 74-71 win.

  • Brenner led TMU in scoring with 15, Clos followed with 14.
  • Simon scored 13 points with 6 boards, Secrist added 13 points.
  • Shot 88% from the free throw line.

  • The women's basketball game against Georgetown on December 19, has been postponed until January 9.
  • The Saints will return to action on December 23, where they will travel to Portsmouth Ohio, to take on Shawnee State, tip-off is set for 6 p.m. ET.
