Box Score 2 (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More University men's volleyball team went 2-0 tonight (Friday, January 31, 2020) on the first night of the Thomas More Invitational at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. The Saints came from behind to defeat Midway University, 3-2, and fought off three match points in the fifth set to beat Reinhardt University, 3-2.
With the wins, Thomas More improved to 3-1 on the season.
MIDWAY MATCH
- After dropping the first two sets, the Saints rallied to defeat the Eagles by the scores of 26-28, 19-25, 29-24, 25-23 and 15-10.
 
- First-year outside hitter Chris Carlson (Manila Philippines/Brent International School) led the Saints' offensive attack with 12 kills, to go with three digs and five blocks.
 
- Junior setter Mason Cobler (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville South) tallied nine kills, five assists, three service aces, five digs and four blocks.
 
- First-year outside hitter Cameron Ware (Pearland, Texas/Turner) finished with nine kills, four digs, three blocks and one assist.
 
- Sophomore setter Tanner Miller (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) paced the offense with 23 assists, while adding one ace, one kill, four digs and four blocks.
 
- First-year defensive specialist Jonathan Litzler (Edgewood, Ky./St. Henry) had eight digs and one service ace.
 
REINHARDT MATCH
- Thomas More beat Reinhardt by the scores of 22-25, 25-23, 27-25, 22-25, 16-14.
 
- The Saints trailed 14-11 in the final set before scoring the next five points to win the match.
 
- Senior outside hitter Ryan Hans (Fort Thomas, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) had a team-high 12 kills with six digs and three service aces.
 
- First-year Jacob Wehrman (Milford, Ohio/Milford) finished with 11 kills and four total blocks at the net.
 
- Carlson added 10 kills for the Saints.
 
- Litzler and Cobler each had 12 digs to lead Thomas More's defense.
 
- Miller recorded 31 assists and eight digs.
 
- The Saints will close out the Thomas More Invitational tomorrow as they play Sienna Heights University at 11 a.m. and Cumberland University at 3 p.m.
