Thomas More Falls, 71-67, to Third-Ranked Campbellsville

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More University women's basketball team fell, 71-67, to third-ranked Campbellsville University today (Saturday, January 25, 2020) in a Mid-South Conference game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

  • Campbellsville jumped out to a 15-11 lead with 2:07 to play in the first quarter when Madison Faulkner made a jumper.
  • Thomas More answered with a 5-2 run capped by three free-throws by sophomore guard Lucy Carrigan (Rising Sun, Ind./Rising Sun) to cut the lead to 17-16 with 1:00 to play in the first quarter.
  • The Tigers closed the first quarter on a 4-0 run to take a 21-16 lead after one quarter.
  • The Saints opened the second quarter on a 23-9 run to take a 39-33 lead with 44-seconds to play in the quarter when first-year guard Summer Secrist (Taylor Mill, Ky./Scott) made a jumper.
  • Campbellsville scored the final four points of the quarter to cut the Saints' lead to 39-37 at halftime.
  • Thomas More shot 61.9 percent (13-of-21) from the field in the first half, including 50 percent (four-of-eight) from behind the three-point arc.

  • Campbellsville opened the third quarter on a 9-2 run to take a 46-41 lead on a Shyla Calbert lay-up with 6:11 to play in the quarter.
  • The Saints responded with a 6-2 run capped by a jumper by first-year guard Zoie Barth (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) to cut the lead to 48-47 with 2:20 to play in the third quarter.
  • Campbellsville closed the half on a 5-2 run to extend the lead to 53-49 after three quarters.
  • The Tigers opened the third quarter on a 13-2 run to extend the lead to 65-51 with 6:34 to play in the game when Faulkner made a jumper.
  • Undaunted Thomas More answered with a 16-5 run to cut the lead to 70-67 with 11-seconds to play in the game when first-year guard Courtney Hurst (Burlington, Ky./Conner) made a lay-up.
  • That would be as close as the Saints would come, as Campbellsville made a free-throw with four-seconds to play in the game to post the 71-67 victory.

  • Thomas More falls to 15-6 overall and 4-4 in the Mid-South.
  • Campbellsville improves to 21-1 overall and 7-1 in the Mid-South.
  • The Saints shot 48.1 percent (26-of-54) from the field and 100 percent (11-of-11) from the free-throw line.
  • Barth finished the game with 13 points, six rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal.
  • Hurst added 13 points, four assists, four rebounds, two steals and one block.
  • Sophomore forward Kaylin Burdick (Cincinnati, Ohio/West Clermont) had 12 points, seven rebounds and two assists.
  • Senior forward Emily Schultz (Melbourne, Ky./Bishop Brossart) had 12 points, seven rebounds, and two blocked shots.

  • Thomas More returns to action on Thursday (January 30) when it hosts the University of Pikeville at 6 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center.
