Thomas More Falls to #8 Cumberlands (Ky.)

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More University football team fell, 45-31, to eighth-ranked University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) today (Saturday, November 9, 2019) in a Mid-South Conference Bluegrass Division at BB&T Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

  • Thomas More took a 3-0 lead with 12:34 to play in the opening quarter when sophomore kicker Alexander Haley (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) made a 20-yard field goal.
  • Cumberlands tied the game at 33- with a 29-yard field goal with 6:03 to play in the first quarter.
  • Senior quarterback Justin Post (Macedonia, Ohio/Nordonia) scored on a one-yard run and senior kicker Alex Barnhart (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central) added the point-after-attempt to give the Saints a 10-3 lead with 2:54 to play in the first quarter.

  • The Patriots scored touchdowns at 5:32 and 17-seconds in the quarter to build a 17-10 lead at halftime.

  • Cumberlands opened the quarter with touchdowns at 14:03 and 6:52 in the quarter to build a 31-10.
  • Thomas More cut the lead to 31-17 when Post scored on a 16-yard run and Barnhart added the PAT with 4:40 to play in the third quarter.
  • Cumberlands scored with 3:46 to play in the quarter to take a 38-17 lead.

  • The Saints cut the lead to 38-24 with 9:50 to play in the game when Post connected on a four-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Da'marco Canty (Bogart (North Oconee) and Barnhart added the PAT.
  • Cumberlands scored with 6:01 to play to increase the lead to 45-24.
  • Thomas More closed out the scoring with 1:34 to play when junior running back Monalo Caldwell (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) scored on a two-yard run and Barnhart added the PAT for the final score of 45-31.

  • Thomas More falls to 3-7 overall and 1-5 in the Mid-South Bluegrass Division.
  • Cumberlands improves to 9-0 overall and 6-0 in the Bluegrass Division.
  • Post was 21-of-52 passing for 257 yards and a touchdown and ran the ball nine times for 46 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Caldwell finished with 10 carries for 38 yards and a touchdown.
  • Senior wide receiver Mitchell Hogue (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) had nine catches for 95 yards.
  • Canty finished with five catches for 79 yards and a touchdown.
  • Junior defensive back Brian Manning, Jr. (Burlington, Ky./Conner) led the defense with nine tackles (seven solo/two assisted).
  • Sophomore linebacker Peyton Van Horn (Hebron, Ky./Conner) had eight tackles (three solo/five assisted.
  • Sophomore linebacker Drew Bartolovich (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) had six tackles (two solo/five assisted).
  • Senior linebacker Cody Coffey (Anderson, Ohio/Anderson) had six tackles (one solo/five assisted), including a half tackle for a loss.

  • Thomas More will close out the season next Saturday (November 16) when it hosts the University of Pikeville at 1:30 p.m. on Senior Day at BB&T Field.
