Thomas More Defeats Pikeville, 34-21, in Season Finale

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More University football team defeated the University of Pikeville, 34-21, today (Saturday, November 16, 2019) in a Mid-South Conference Bluegrass Division game at BB&T Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

  • Thomas More took a 7-0 lead with 32-seconds to play in the opening quarter when senior quarterback Justin Post (Madeconia, Ohio/Nordonia) connected on a 13-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Da'marco Canty (Bogart, Ga./North Oconee) and senior kicker Alex Barnhart (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central) added the point-after-attempt.

  • UPike tied the game at 7-7 when Damian Sutton caught a 21-yard touchdown pass from Xavier Malone and William Chandler made the PAT with 11:09 to play in the second quarter.
  • Post and Canty connected on a nine-yard touchdown pass and Barnhart added the PAT to give Thomas More a 14-7 lead with 5:32 to play in the quarter.
  • The Bears tied the game at 14-14 with 2:59 to play in the first half when Robert Sims III scored on a 14-yard touchdown pass from Malone and Chandler added the PAT.

  • Thomas More took a 21-14 lead with 1:41 to play in the quarter when Post connected on a 17-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Johnny McNally (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) and Barnhart connected on the PAT.

  • The Saints extended the lead to 28-14 when junior running back Dillon Powell (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) scored on a one-yard run and Barnhart added the PAT with 10:39 to play in the game.
  • Johran Broadnax returned a fumble 53-yards for a touchdown and Chandler added the PAT to cut the Saints' lead to 28-21 with 8:51 to play in the game.
  • Thomas More closed out the scoring with 1:40 to play in the game when Powell scored on an 11-yard touchdown run and the PAT was no good for the final score of 34-21.

  • Thomas More ends the season at 4-7 overall and 2-5 in the Bluegrass Division.
  • Pikeville finishes at 5-5 and 4-3 in the Bluegrass Division.
  • Thomas More out-gained UPike 390 yards (97 rushing/293 passing) to 310 yards (155 rushing/155 passing).
  • Post finished 32-of-47 passing for 293 yards and had nine rushes for 17 yards.
  • Canty led the receivers with seven catches for 83 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Senior wide receiver Mitchell Hogue (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) had six catches for 58 yards.
  • McNally finished with five catches for 45 yards and one touchdown.
  • Junior running back Justin Durham (Elsmere, Ky./Lloyd Memorial) had four rushes for 45 yards.
  • Powell finished with 12 rushes for 33 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Sophomore linebacker Peyton Van Horn (Hebron, Ky./Conner) led the defense with nine tackles (six solo/three assisted), including a half sack.
  • Sophomore linebacker Drew Bartolovich (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) had eight tackles (three solo/five assisted).
  • Senior linebacker Cody Coffey (Anderson, Ohio/Anderson) had five tackles (four solo/one assisted).
  • Senior linebacker Ryan Stofko (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) finished with five tackles (two solo/three assisted).

  • This was the last game of the season for the Saints and the 2020 schedule will be posted in January.
