Thomas More's Rally Falls Short as Bethel Wins 35-28

(MCKENZIE, Tenn.) – The Thomas More University football team's fourth quarter rally falls short today (Saturday, November 2, 2019) as it fell, 35-28, to Bethel (Tenn.) University in a Mid-South Conference Bluegrass Division game at Wildcat Stadium in McKenzie, Tennessee.

  • Thomas More took a 7-0 run with 1:48 to play in the quarter when senior quarterback Justin Post (Macedonia, Ohio/Nordonia) connected on a four-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Da'marco Canty (Bogart, Ga./North Oconee) and senior kicker Alex Barnhart (Westerville, Ohio/Westervilel Central) added the point-after-attempt.
  • The Wildcats tied the game at 7-7 as time expired in the opening quarter when De'Ontay Tate scored on a seven-yard touchdown run and Rodrigo Campos added the PAT

  • Bethel took a 14-7 lead when Christian Arrambide threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to J'Kobi Reddick and Campos added the PAT with 11:32 to play in the quarter.
  • Thomas More tied the game at 14-14 with 36-second in the second quarter when Post connected on a 22-yard touchdown pass to junior running back Justin Durham (Elsmere, Ky./Lloyd Memorial) and Barnhart added the PAT.

  • Belthel retook the game at 21-14 when Arrambide scored on a two-yard run and Campos added the PAT with 12:44 to play in the quarter.
  • The Wildcats extended the lead to 28-14 when Caleb Nelson scored on a four-yard run and Campos added the PAT with 10:09 to play in the quarter.
  • Arrambide scored on a three-yard run and Campos added the PAT with 2:33 to play in the quarter and extend Bethel's lead to 35-14.

  • Thomas More cut the lead to 21-35 with 13:27 to play in game when Post and Canty connected on a 16-yard touchdown pitch and catch and Barnhart added the PAT.
  • Canty scored on a 26-yard touchdown pass from Post and Barnhart to cut the lead to 35-28 with 10:09 to play in the fourth quarter.

  • Thomas More fell to 3-6 overall and 1-4 in the Bluegrass Division.
  • Bethel improved to 4-5 overall and 1-4 in the Bluegrass Division.
  • The Saints had 413 yards of total offense (72 rushing/341 passing) to Bethel's 464 yards (274 rushing/190 passing).
  • Post was 24-of-46 passing for 341 yards and four touchdowns.
  • Canty had five catches for 73 yard and three touchdowns.
  • Senior wide receiver Johnny McNally (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) had five catches for 116 yards.
  • Durham finished with nine rushes for 34 yards and had four catches for 57 yards and one touchdown.
  • Senior wide receiver Mitchell Hogue (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) had six catches for 60 yards.
  • Sophomore linebacker Peyton Van Horn (Hebron, Ky./Conner) led the defense with 13 tackles, (10 solo/three assisted) including two and a half tackles for a loss.
  • Senior defensive back Thomas Williams (Oregonia, Ohio/Clinton Massie) had nine tackles, (seven solo/two assisted) including one tackle for a loss.
  • Junior defensive back Brian Manning, Jr. (Burlington, Ky./Conner) had seven tackles, (six solo/one assisted) including one tackle for a loss.

  • Thomas More returns home to BB&T Field next Saturday (November 9) when it hosts eighth-ranked University of the Cumberlands at 1:30 p.m.
