No. 5 Thomas More Reaches Century Mark in Win at Thiel

(GREENVILLE, Pa.) – The fifth-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball team crossed the century mark today (Saturday, December 3, 2016) for the first time this season as it defeated Thiel College, 101-42, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at Beeghly Gymnasium in Greenville, Pennsylvania.

With the win, the Saints remain undefeated at 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the PAC.  With the loss, the Tomcats fall to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the PAC.

Thomas More jumped out to a 32-14 lead after one quarter and then out-scored Thiel 28-14 in the second quarter to build a 60-28 lead at halftime.  The Saints continued to dominate in the second half as they out-scored the Tomcats 20-4 in the third quarter and 21-10 in the fourth quarter to cruise to the 101-42 victory.

The Saints out-scored Thiel 52-10 in the paint, 21-5 off turnovers, 26-1 on second chance points and Thomas More's bench out-scored Thiel's 38-8.

Junior guard Abby Owings (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) led four Saints in double-figure scoring with a game-high 22 points.  Joining her in double-figures was junior forward Nikki Kiernan (Cold Springs, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) with 19 points, sophomore guard Madison Temple (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) with 17 points and first-year forward Emily Schultz (Melbourne, Ky./Bishop Brossart) with 10 points.  Kiernan recorded a double-double as she pulled down 12 rebounds to go with her 19 points.  Sophomore forward Shelby Rupp (Milan, Ind./Batesville) just missed a double-double as she had nine point and 12 rebounds to go with six steals and three blocked shots.  Sophomore guard Michaela Ware (Newport, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) led the team in assists with five.

Thomas More is idle until next Saturday (December 10) when it hosts Bethany College at 1 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
