Box Score (BEAVER FALLS, Pa.) – The Thomas More College baseball team defeated Geneva College, 3-0, today (Thursday, April 2, 2015) in a first game of a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. The nightcap of the doubleheader was postponed until tomorrow due to rain.
With the win, the Saints improve to 15-3 overall and remain undefeated in the PAC at 7-0. With the loss, the Golden Tornadoes fall to 9-9 overall and 2-4 in the PAC.
In the fifth inning, senior catcher Brad Popham (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights) scored on a bunt single by sophomore centerfielder Casey Metzger (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) and Metzger scored on a suicide squeeze by junior shortstop Marcus Woelfel (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) to give the Saints a 2-0 lead.
In the seventh inning, Popham gave the Saints the 3-0 lead when he scored on a suicide squeeze by junior left fielder Zach Fardo (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart).
Junior pitcher Logan Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) earned the win on the mound as he pitched a complete game shutout, while giving up eight hits and striking out three.
At the plate, Popham, Metzger, senior first baseman Nick Connor (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) and sophomore right fielder Ben Kenning (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) each had a hit in the game.
Thomas More and Geneva will look to close out the three-game series tomorrow with a seven inning game at 11 a.m., followed by a nine inning game.
