Box Score (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – Junior forward Olivia Huber (Woodlawn, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) broke one record and freshman forward Julia Flagge-Echols (Colerain, Ohio/Colerain) tied and broke one record today (Saturday, October 4, 2014) as the ninth-ranked Thomas More College women's soccer team defeated Bethany College, 13-0, in both teams' Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match at The Bank of Kentucky Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 10-1 overall and 1-0 in the PAC and with the loss, the Bison fall to 3-7 overall and 0-1 in the PAC.
Huber scored three goals to increase her career record to 56, which set the new Thomas More career goal mark. The previous record was 53 by Cathy Satillo, who played at Thomas More from 2002 to 2006. Flagge-Echols scored a school single-game record tying five goals and added three assists to set the new Thomas More single-game points record with 13 points. She tied Stephanie Neidich's five goal record against Bluffton University in 1991 and broke Neidich's previous record of 10 points against Bluffton in 1991.
The 13 goals the Saints scored in the match is the most in a PAC match since Saint Vincent defeated Chatham, 13-0, on October 27, 2012. The Thomas More record for goals in a match is 15, which was set in 1995 against Defiance College.
Thomas More took an early 1-0 lead at the 1:32 mark when Flagge-Echols scored off a cross from sophomore midfielder Nicole Brown (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore). Huber increased the lead to 2-0 when she found the back of the next off an assist from sophomore midfielder Erika LaRosa (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) and Brown at the 12:39 mark. The Saints led 3-0 at halftime as Brown scored at the 13:20 mark off a Huber assist.
Huber increased the Saints' lead to 4-0 at the 46:17 mark when she scored off a cross from sophomore midfielder Elise Duggins (Union, Ky./Ryle). Flagge-Echols scored off a double assist from Huber and senior midfielder Sam Work (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) at the 47:39 mark to extend the lead to 5-0. The Saints increased the lead to 6-0 at the 48:50 mark when sophomore midfielder Laura Felix (Burlington, Ky./St .Henry) scored off a cross from Flagge-Echols and LaRosa. The lead grew to 7-0 when Huber completed a hat trick with goal at the 49:49 mark off an assist from Flagge-Echols. Flagge-Echols completed a hat trick at the 53:05 mark when she scored off an assist from Duggins and Work to increase the lead to 8-0. Thomas More extended the lead to 9-0 when LaRosa scored off an assist from Flagge-Echols at the 54:25 mark. Flagge-Echols increased the lead to 10-0 at the 60:53 mark when she scored off a pass from Huber. Flagge-Echols scored her record-tying fifth goal at the 60:53 mark off an assist from senior defender Emilee Buchanan (Columbus, Ind./Columbus East) to make the score 11-0. Freshman midfielder Samantha Kerr (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) increased the score to 12-0 when she scored unassisted at the 69:07 mark. Freshman forward Abby Stadtmiller (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) closed out the scoring at the 77:14 off a cross from sophomore defender Josie Perrino (Tracey Calif./St. Mary's) for the final score of 13-0.
Sophomore goalkeeper Megan Barton (Florence, Ky./Villa Madonna) earned the shutout win as she played all 90 minutes in goal.
Thomas More out-shot Bethany, 42-0, including 25-0 on-goal, while it also won the battle of corner kicks, 9-0.
The Saints return to action on Thursday (October 9) when they travel to Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania to play Geneva College. The PAC match is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
