Box Score (WAYNESBURG, Pa.) – The 10th-ranked Thomas More College women's soccer team defeated Waynesburg University, 4-0, today (Saturday, October 18, 2014) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match at Wiley Stadium in Waynesburg University.
With the win, the Saints improve to 14-1 overall and 5-0 in the PAC. Thomas More has out-scored their PAC opponents this season by a combined 33-0 in five matches. With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 6-7-2 overall and 2-3 in the PAC.
Thomas More took a 1-0 lead at the 47:00 mark when freshman forward Julia Flagge-Echols (Colerain, Ohio/Colerain) scored unassisted. Flagge-Echols increased the Saints' lead to 2-0 when she scored unassisted at the 59:59 mark.
Thomas More increased the lead to 3-0 at the 78:00 mark when junior forward Olivia Huber (Woodlawn, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) scored unassisted. Huber closed out the scoring at the 89:09 mark when she scored off a Flagge-Echols corner kick for the final score of 4-0.
With her two goals in the match, Huber tied the Thomas More single-season goal record with 27 goals. She tied the mark set by Brittany Yeggy in 2007.
Sophomore goalkeeper Christy Smith (Washington Courthouse, Ohio/Washington Courthouse) earned the shutout win as she played all 90 minutes and recorded one save.
Thomas More out-shot Waynesburg 22-4, including 9-1 on-goal and won the battle of corner kicks, 7-3.
The Saints return to action on Wednesday (October 22) when they travel to Washington, Pennsylvania to play Washington & Jefferson College at 7:30 p.m.
