Box Score (UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio) - The Thomas More College men's soccer team fell, 2-1, to John Carroll University today (Saturday, August 31, 2013) in both teams' season opener at Don Shula Stadium in University Heights, Ohio.
With the loss, the Saints fall to 0-1 and with the win, the Blue Streaks improve to 1-0.
John Carroll took an early 1-0 lead when Mariusz Trzeciak scored unassisted at the 15:34 mark. Thomas More tied the game at 1-1 at 30:12 when freshman forward Brian Runyon (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) scored off a cross from sophomore midfielder Josh Lyons (Danville, Ky./Boyle County).
The Blue Streaks' Trzeciak scored the eventual game-winning goal at the 46:47 mark to make the score 2-1.
Junior goalkeeper Matt Kees (Covington, Ky./Scott) played all 90 minutes in goal and allowed two goals, while recording six saves.
John Carroll out-shot the Saints, 11-5, including 8-3 on-goal.
Thomas More returns to action on Wednesday (September 4) when it hosts Wittenberg University at 5 p.m. in its home opener at The Bank of Kentucky Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
