Thomas More Sweeps PAC Doubleheader at Geneva

(BEAVER FALLS, Pa.) - The Thomas More College baseball team completed a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) three-game series sweep of Geneva College today (Saturday, May 4, 2013) as it swept a doubleheader at 33rd Street Field in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania.  The Saints won game one, 5-3, and the nightcap, 3-1.

With the sweep, the Saints end the regular season at 27-12 overall and 17-7 in the PAC. They will be either the No. 2 or No. 3 seed in next week's PAC Championship Tournament hosted by No. 1 seed Washington & Jefferson College at Ross Memorial Park in Washington, Pennsylvania.  The Saints will play Thiel College in a first round game on Thursday (May 9) at a time to be announced tomorrow on the PAC website. With the two losses, the Golden Tornadoes end the season at 14-22 overall and 9-15 in the PAC.

In game one, Geneva scored three runs in the first inning to take a 3-0 lead, but the Saints scored two in the third, one in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the seventh for the 5-3 victory.

At the plate, three Saints at multiple hits in the game as senior shortstop David Kennett (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City) was two-for-five with a double, a run batted-in and a run scored, senior designated hitter David Etscheid (Union, Ky./Ryle) was two-for-three and sophomore first baseman Craig Hyson (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) was two-for-two with a run scored.

Sophomore pitcher Tim Baldrick (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) earned the win on the mound as he pitched five and a third innings and gave up three runs (all earned) on nine hits and struck out five.  Junior pitcher Andy Roenker (Taylor Mill, Ky./Holy Cross) earned the save as he pitched one and two-third shutout innings and struck out one.

In the nightcap, Thomas More scored two runs in the first and one in the sixth and held Geneva to a run in the first for the 3-1 victory.

On the mound, senior pitcher Grant Lewis (Mason, Ohio/Mason) earned the win as he pitched a complete game seven innings and gave up one run (earned) on 10 hits and struck out seven.

Junior third baseman Travis Miller (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) and Kennett led the team at the plate as Miller was two-for-three with a double and a RBI and Kennett was two-for-four.
