Box Score 2 (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More College volleyball team moved into solo first place in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) as it defeated both Saint Vincent College and Bethany College, 3-0, today (Saturday, September 29, 2012) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) tri-match at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the sweep the Saints improve to 14-4 overall and 7-0 in the PAC.
In the first match of the day, the Saints defeated Saint Vincent by the scores of 25-18, 25-12 and 26-24. Freshman middle hitter Jessica Knaley (Florence, Ky./St. Henry) led the team in kills with 11, while junior middle hitter Tyler Deaton (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic) added nine. Sophomore defensive specialist Kelsey Castiglioni (Harrison Township, Mich./L'Anse Creuse) had five service aces and senior setter Tori Verville (Edgewood, Ky./Holy Cross) led the team in assists with 29.
Defensively, the Saints were led by Castiglioni with 21 digs, while junior defensive specialist Brittany Rohrkasse (Mason, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) and sophomore defensive specialist Christina Brackett-Newport (Louisville, Ky./Seneca) each added nine digs.
In the second match of the day, the Saints defeated previous PAC unbeaten Bethany by the scores of 25-17, 25-22 and 25-19. The Saints had two players with double-digit kills as sophomore outside hitter Karsen Cronin (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) had 14 and sophomore outside hitter Felicity Britt (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) had 12. Verville paced the offense with 44 assists.
The defense was led by Castiglioni with 21 digs and Brackett-Newport with 10 digs.
Thomas More returns to action next Saturday (October 6) when it travels to Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania for a PAC tri-match. The Saints will play Grove City College at 1 p.m. and host Geneva College at 3 p.m.
