Box Score (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The 21st-ranked Thomas More College women's soccer team posted its sixth-straight shutout as it defeated Bethany College, 4-0, today (Saturday, October 20, 2012) in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match on Senior Day at The Bank of Kentucky Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 16-1-0 overall and 7-0-0 in the PAC. The 16 wins ties the school record for wins in a season as the Saints also won 16 games in 2007. With the loss, the Bison fall to 2-11-2 overall and 1-5-1 in the PAC.
Thomas More took a 1-0 lead at the 36:43 mark when senior midfielder Chrissy Sonderman (Indpendence, Ky./Simon Kenton) scored unassisted on a breakaway. The Saints increased the lead to 2-0 at halftime when freshman defender Abby Osborne (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) scored on a penalty kick at 38:16.
Junior forward Courtney Clark (Burlington, Ky./Notre Dame) gave the Saints a 3-0 lead when she scored at the 58:13 mark off a cross from senior forward Lauren Wietmarschen (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley). Thomas More closed out the scoring at the 84:56 mark when sophomore midfielder Sam Work (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) scored on a Sonderman assist for the final score of 4-0.
Freshman goalkeeper Abbie McBride (Lakeville, Ky./LaVille) played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded one save in the shutout win.
Thomas More out-shot Bethany, 31-2, including 15-1 on-goal and won the battle of corner kicks, 9-1.
The Saints close out the home portion of their regular-season on Wednesday (October 24) when they host Washington & Jefferson College at 3:30 p.m. at The Bank of Kentucky Field.
