Box Score (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The second-seeded Thomas More College women's soccer team defeated fourth-seeded Waynesburg University, 3-0, today (Friday, November 4, 2011) to win the 2011 PAC Championship at The Bank of Kentucky Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 12-4-1 and earn a berth in the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship Tournament for the first time since 2003. Thomas More was the first team to clinch a berth in the NCAA Tournament field. The field of 62 for the 2011 NCAA Division III women's soccer tournament will be announced at 1:30 p.m. on Monday (November 7) on NCAA.com. With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 15-5-1.
Thomas More took an early 1-0 lead at the 17:23 when sophomore midfielder Kirstie Reilman (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) scored off a corner kick by senior forward Lauren Wietmarschen (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley).
The Saints increased the lead to 2-0 when senior forward Christy Green (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) scored off a rebound at the 76:36 mark. Thomas More closed out the scoring at the 86:08 mark when sophomore forward Courtney Clark (Burlington, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) scored off a corner by freshman midfielder Sam Work (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) for the final score of 3-0.
Senior goalkeeper Katie Burger (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) earned the win in goal as Thomas More out-shot the Yellow Jackets, 24-0, including 14-0 on-goal. The Saints won the battle of corner kicks, 18-0.
