Spencer Berlekamp enters his 7th season in 2025-2026 coaching at Thomas More University and his 2nd season as the associate head men's basketball coach at Thomas More University.
During Berlekamp's time on staff he has helped the Saints navigate through two transitions from NCAA Division III to NAIA in 2019 and again from NAIA to NCAA Division II in 2023. Since 2019, the Saints have had the most successful stretch in program history. The Saints have a 135-54 record and a .714 win percentage with Coach Berlekamp as the top assistant. He helped the team earn a trip to the 2022 NAIA Fab Four appearance going 31-5 and captured the program's first Mid-South Conference regular season championship finishing 19-2 in MSC play. In 2023, the Saints made history earning the program's first #1 national ranking. In his first four seasons, the Saints were ranked in the Top 25 each year and earned four consecutive trips to the national tournament. In the 2023-24 season, the Saints competed in the NCAA Division II Great Midwest Conference finishing fourth overall out of 13 teams. The Saints finished the year as the G-MAC tournament runner-up winning 19 games in their inaugural DII season. The Saints again returned to the G-MAC Championship game in 2024-25, as the team finished the season with a 19-11 overall record and a 12-8 G-MAC record.
In seven seasons, Berlekamp has recruited and developed 3 All-American selections, 2 conference player of the year selections, 3 freshman of the year selections, 2 Bevo Francis Top 50 nominees and 17 all-conference selections. In 2022, Berlekamp was voted the Mid-South Conference Assistant Coach of the Year.
Prior to Thomas More, Berlekamp was at Kings High School where he was a varsity assistant basketball coach for the past four seasons. While at Kings, Berlekamp helped lead the Knights to a conference championship. During his time at Kings he helped develop eight all conference players, and one conference player of the year.
Berlekamp has coached AAU basketball with the Cincinnati Royals as an assistant and in a head coaching role for the past seven years producing many NCAA D1, D2, D3 & NAIA players.
Berlekamp, 2015, was a four-year letter winner and a three-year starter at Thomas More from 2010-2014. As a Freshman, Junior and Senior he led the team in assists and was named team captain his senior year.
Originally from Maineville, Ohio, Berlekamp played for Kings High School where he earned FAVC all-conference honors in his junior and senior seasons. As a senior, Berlekamp was named first-team all-district.
Berlekamp earned his bachelor of Sports and Entertainment Marketing degree in 2015 from Thomas More. He was a member of the conference’s honor roll for three years while in college. Coach Berlekamp currently resides in Cincinnati.
