Cole Shaffer

Cole Shaffer, the eighth head baseball coach at Thomas More University is entering his first season on the sidelines in Crestview Hills, Kentucky during the 2025-26 season.

Prior to taking the reins at Thomas More, Shaffer served as Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Ohio Dominican University in Columbus, OH. During his tenure, he was instrumental in building one of the most dynamic offenses in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC). Under his leadership, the program led the GMAC in home runs, RBIs, and walks, setting a conference record with 292 base on balls, and finishing in the top 3 in the GMAC in runs, slugging percentage, hit by pitch, and on base percentage in 2025. His efforts helped guide the Panthers to the 2025 GMAC Championship Game, the Panthers second appearance in the title game in 3 seasons. CJ Dean was named to NCBWA Midwest Region Second Team and First Team All-GMAC in 2025 after leading the GMAC in Home runs (15). Altogether, 3 ODU Hitters earned All-GMAC nods in 2025. 2024 saw the Panthers offense register a .311 team batting average while hitting program record 107 doubles. All-American catcher Jack Mathey signed an UDFA contract with the San Diego Padres and was one of a quartet of Panthers to earn All-GMAC honors in 2024.

Shaffer spent the summer of 2023 as the Head Coach for the Licking County Settlers of the Great Lakes summer collegiate league. Under Shaffer, 3 players were named All-GLSCL, including 2024 Oakland Athletics 17th round selection, Aidan Layton.

In 2023, Shaffer was part of a historic season as an assistant coach at LSU Shreveport in Shreveport, Louisiana. The Pilots finished the 2023 campaign with a record of 47-10 which culminated in LSUS’s 19th Red River Athletic Conference Championship, a #2 National ranking, and being named a NAIA Regional host for the first time in program history. With Shaffer’s assistance, the Pilots offense produced 8 All-RRAC players and defensively produced 3 RRAC Gold Glovers.  Notably, 10 players from that team signed affiliate or independent professional contracts. Ryan Major was named a First Team All-American and RRAC Player of the Year after breaking program records for career batting average (.443), single season batting average (.472), and single season hits (100). In total, the 2023 LSUS team produced 3 All-Americans, 15 All-Conference honorees, RRAC Player, Pitcher, and Newcomer of the Year, and 8 RRAC Player of the Week awards.

Shaffer spent the 2022 season at California University of Pennsylvania as a Volunteer Assistant under legendary Head Coach, Mike Conte. The 2022 Vulcans, posted a 31-win season, returned to the PSAC tournament for a 3rd straight season, and landed 8 players on the All-PSAC team including All-American Shortstop/Pitcher, Jacob McCaskey.

An Indiana, PA native, Shaffer began his coaching career in 2021 at Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he served as Graduate Assistant while completing a Master of Science in Sport Management.

As a player, Shaffer attended Clarion University of Pennsylvania and was a 4-year starter in the middle infield for the Golden Eagles, graduating in 2020 with a Bachelor degree in Sport Management.
