Saints earn season opener win over Young Harris

(YOUNG HARRIS, Ga.) – The Thomas More men's lacrosse team defeated Young Harris 13-10 in their season opener on Saturday (February 7)
 
How they scored
  • Thomas More scored the first two goals of the game to take a 2-0 lead less than five minutes into the game. Freshman Eric Wong (Union, Ky. / Cooper) and redshirt sophomore Bryce Collins (Lewis Center, Ohio / Olentangy / Mercyhurst) both scored unassisted.
  • Young Harris scored back-to-back shots including capitalizing on a man-up opportunity to tie the game.
  • Junior Noah Koenig (Erlanger, Ky. / Dixie Heights) scored just 30 seconds later to give Thomas More back the lead.
  • The Saints took a 4-3 lead after the first quarter on a goal from senior Spencer Lethbridge (Cleveland, Ohio / Olmsted Falls).
  • Thomas More scored three more goals in the second quarter while holding Young Harris scoreless to take a 7-3 lead at half time. Those second quarter goals were from senior Graham House (Hilliard, Ohio / St. Charles), Wong, and Lethbridge. Wong also got credited for the assist on the Lethbridge goal.
  • Freshman Gus Kleeman (Mason, Ohio / Mason) scored about a minute into the second half with an assist from Wong.
  • Koenig and Wong scored a goal each to give the Saints a six goal lead with 5:27 remaining in the third quarter.
  • The Mountain Lions attempted a comeback scoring three goals unanswered over the end of the third quarter and into the fourth quarter but it only brought them within three.
  • Lethbridge had his third goal of the day at 8:07 remaining and then his fourth and final goal at the 2:28 mark as Thomas More took a 12-8 lead.
  • The final Saints goal came off the stick of Collins with 1:19 remaining.
  • Young Harris scored on a man-down situation with 54 seconds left before scoring their final goal with 21 seconds remaining.
