Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Saints earn 20-point victory over Walsh

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio)- Thomas More University's women's basketball team defeat Walsh, 66-46. The Saints overall record improved to 17-2 and 9-2 in conference play.
 
 First Half
  • Senior Sereniti Webb (Covington, Ky./Simon Kenton) scored the first five points of the game for the Saints and started a 11-point run to put the visitors up 11-3. It was the Saints best scoring run of the game.
  • With 3:16 to go in the first quarter, junior Desiree Tandy (Danville, Ky./Danville) scored on a fastbreak off a turnover to give Thomas More their first double-digit lead of the night.
  • Junior Morgan Hunt (Hollansburg, Ohio/Tri-Village) tied Webb for five points each, combining for more than half of the Saints first frame.
  • Both teams offense slowed in the second quarter, each only scoring 10. Senior Rylee Turner (Newport, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) had the first points for the Saints with back-to-back free throws with just over five minutes remaining in the half.
  • The Cavaliers got within two points of Thomas More with 4:19 to play but the Saints were able to maintain the nine-point lead going into the halftime locker room.

 Second Half
  • Redshirt-sophomore Rylee Leonard (Sardinia, Ohio/Eastern Brown) started the second half with back to back layups off turnovers within the first 32 seconds of action.
  • There was a scoreless two-minutes by both teams until redshirt-junior Natalie Noel (Salem, Ind./Salem) and Tandy hit a three-pointer and a layup to push the lead to sixteen.
  • Tandy attempted a shot at the buzzer of the third quarter but was blocked. Saints had a 47-32 lead going into the final period.
  • Webb, Turner, and Leonard worked inside the paint early in the fourth quarter to push Thomas More to a twenty-point lead.
  • Free throws from Turner and a layup from freshman Jersey Paul (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll)  gave the Saints their largest lead of the night at 60-34 with six minutes to play.
  • Sophomore Amara Jackson (Huntington, W.V./Huntington) closed the game with a driving layup to finish the game with a twenty-point win.
 
 Notables
  • Sereniti Webb led the team with 13 points; she also had 8 total rebounds with five coming on the defensive end of the court.
  • Rylee Turner and Rylee Leonard each had ten points. Turner had a game-high five assists and went 4-4 from the free throw line.
  • Junior Izzy Rotert (Harrison, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) led the Saints defensively with a game-high nine rebounds and four blocks.
  • The Saints shot 47.1% (24-51) from the field compared to Walsh's 23.5% (16-68) and Thomas More outscored the Cavaliers 42-20 in the paint.
 
 Up Next
The Saints will return home on Saturday (Jan 31) to take on Tiffin beginning at 1:00 pm ET.
