Cavaliers Sweep Saints

(Florence, KY)- Thomas More's baseball team fell to Walsh on Monday afternoon (April 7),  2-1 in game on and 21-9 in game two. The Saints record falls to 9-23 on the year and 3-12 in conference play.

How they scored

Game 1: Walsh 2-1 (7 Innings) 

  • Senior Ben Duncan (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Bradley) started the scoring for the Saints with a homer into the Walsh bullpen in the bottom of the third inning (1-0).  

  • Walsh scored on a wild pitch in the fourth to tie things up 1-1.

  • Walsh scored the final run in the fifth on a single, making the score 2-1. 

Game 2: Walsh 21-9 (7 Innings) 

  • Walsh got out to an early four run lead in the top of the first inning (0-4).

  • Thomas More responded in a big way with five runs in the bottom of the second, thanks in large part to senior Gavin Vogelgesang's (Cincinnati, OH / St. Xavier) 3-run home run (5-4). First year Miguel Correa Jr. (Avon, IN / Avon) added the other two runs with a triple to give the Saints a 6-5 lead.

  • First year Chad Atchley (Peach Grove, KY / Simon Kenton) got an RBI with a single to center in the third making it a 6-4 game.

  • Walsh scored 9 unanswered in the fourth and fifth inning to take a 13-6 lead. 

  • Gavin Vogelgesang plated two more with a single, bringing the score to 13-8 in the bottom of the fifth.

  • Walsh scored four each in the sixth and seventh inning making it a 21-8 game. 

  • First year Brady Schnierer (Columbus, OH / Olentangy Liberty) scored the final run in the seventh to make it 21-9. 

Game 1: 

  • Ben Duncan homered, scoring the only run of the game for the Saints. 

  • Senior AJ Enginger (Hamilton, OH / Badin) doubled and drew a walk. 

Game 2: 

  • Gavin Vogelgesang had three hits, including a 3-run homerun, totaling five RBIs on the day. 

  • Sophomore Matt Resing (Independence, KY / St. Henry) went 2-3 with two runs scored. 

 

Game 1: 

  • Senior Austin Dennis (Cincinnati, OH / Oak Hills) went 3.1 IP, allowing just one earned run while striking out three.

  • First year Jeff Levin (Cincinnati, OH Cincinnati Hills / Christian Academy) went ome Inning, allowing one and struckout one.

  • First year Dylan Thompson (Cincinnati, OH / St. Xavier) pitched 2.2 shutout Innings and struckout three.

Game 2: 

  • Senior Jackson Grimmelsman started game two (Cincinnati, OH / Elder) going 3.1 IP, allowing five earned runs and struckout one.

  • Senior George Donohoe (Villa Hills, KY / Immaculate Conception) went .2 Innings, allowing four earned runs.

  • Junior Garrett Taulbee (Felicity, OH / Felicity Franklin / Marietta) went .1 Innings, allowing three earned runs and had one strikeout.

  • First year Cameron Snider (Amelia, OH / Bethel-Tate) pitched 2/3 of an inning, allowing one earned run.

  • Senior Jack Rutz (West Chester, OH / LaSalle / Tiffin) went .2 Innings, allowing two earned runs.

  • Junior Cody Watkins (Liberty Township, OH / Lakota East) pitched 1.1 Innings, allowing four earned runs and added a strikeout.

Up Next

Thomas More will visit UC Clermont tomorrow (April 8th). They will return to Thomas More stadium on April 18th to face Ohio Dominican. First pitch tomorrow is scheduled for 3 PM.
