Saints Plate Seven in the First, Hang on to Defeat the Eagles

(ASHLAND, OH)- Thomas More University's baseball team defeated Ashland on Friday (March, 21st) to open a four game series on the road. The Saints won by a final score of 9 to 5. Thomas More moves to 6-12 overall and 1-4 in G-MAC play.
 

How they scored

  • First year Miguel Correa Jr. (Avon, IN / Avon) started the game with a bang as he hit a ball out over center field for a lead off home run. (1-0)
  • Junior Gunner Kalkhoff (Cincinnati, OH / LaSalle) hit an RBI single to bring home the second Saint run of the opening inning. (2-0)
  • An RBI single from senior AJ Enginger (Hamilton, OH / Badin) and another two runs off an error extends the lead to 5 in the first.
  • Thomas More added two more runs in the first off a balk, and an RBI single from Correa Jr. (7-0)
  • In the top of the 2nd inning, senior Gavin Vogelgesang (Cincinnati, OH / St. Xavier) hit a sacrifice fly and first year Brady Schnierer (Columbus, OH / Olentangy Liberty) hit an RBI single to put the Saints in front 9 to 0.
  • Ashland plates five runs in the 3rd inning to cut into the Saints lead.

  • Miguel Correa Jr. went 3 for 5 at the dish, with a double, home run, stolen base, walk and 2 RBIs.
  • Gunner Kalkhoff went 3 for 5 at the plate, with a double and an RBI.
  • AJ Enginger and Brady Schierer both recorded 2 hits in the contest with an RBI a piece.
     

  • Sophomore Ethan Stone (Hamilton, OH / Hamilton) got the start and pitched 5.0 innings. He allowed 5 runs on 6 hits and struck out 4. He picked up the win.
  • First year Jeff Levin (Cincinnati, OH / CHCA) came in and pitched 4.0 innings of relief. He struck out three and only allowed 1 hit in a scoreless performance. He picked up the save.
