Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Women's Volleyball Opens the Season with a Split on Friday Afternoon, McClanahan Surpasses 2,000 Career Assists

(North Canton, OH) - The Thomas More women's volleyball team faced off against Malone University on Friday (September 6) in their season opener.  Malone defeated the Saints in a hard fought five sets. Thomas More responded with a three game sweep over Roosevelt in the second match of the day. Thomas More moves to 1-1 on the season. Senior setter Sam McClanahan (Georgetown, KY / Scott County) picked up her 2,000th career assist during the second match.

 

Match 1: Malone defeats Thomas More, 3-2.
  • Thomas More won the opening set 25 to 17.
  • Malone won the second set 26 to 24.
  • Malone won the third set 25 to 22.
  • Thomas More won the fourth set 25 to 19.
  • Malone took the fifth set 15 to 10.
 
Match 2: Thomas More defeats Roosevelt, 3-0.
  • Thomas More won the opening set 26 to 24.
  • Thomas More won the second set 30 to 28.
  • The Saints swept Roosevelt and took the third set 25 to 21.

 

Match 1:
  • Junior Emily Acito (Cincinnati, OH/Mercy McAuley), Junior Ebony Gomez (Merida, Venezuela/Colegio Salesiano San Luis) led the Saints in kills with 15 a piece.
  • Freshman Audrey Warrick (Linton, IN/Linton Stockton) led the Saints in assists with 20.  Senior Sam McClanahan (Georgetown, KY/Scott County) also tallied 19 assists.
  • Junior Matilde Giamberini (Gornate Olona, Italy/Liceo Curie) led in service aces with 4.  She also led in blocks with 7.
  • Senior Asia Ferrando (Masone, Italy/Barletti Ovada) led the match in digs with 27.
Match 2:

The Thomas More women's volleyball team returns to play on Saturday (September 7) against Seton Hill University at Malone University.  The match is set for 11:15 AM.
