Women's Soccer Comes Back Late to Secure Season Opener

(TUSCULUM, TN)-Thomas More University's women's soccer team defeated Tusculum on Thursday afternoon (September 5), 3-2, in their season opener. The Saints start the season off with a 1-0 record.

How they scored
  • Tusculum's Sydney Grant put the Pioneers on the board in the 27th minute to give them a 0-1 lead.
  • Sophomore Ashtyn Gindling (Sunman, Ind./East Central) scored her first collegiate goal off a second chance shot to the upper right corner to tie things up in the 44th minute. 
  • Tusculum's Addison Rishling scored in the 53rd minute to give them the go ahead lead once again (2-1).
  • Sophomore Andjela Popovic (Belgrade, Serbia/Belgrade High School) sidestepped past the defender off a pass from first year Bethel Green (Lexington, Ky./ Paul Laurence Dunbar) at the top of the box then beat the goal keeper to tie things back up with eight minutes to play (2-2).
  • Ashtyn Gindling hit a long pass down the left side to Bethel Green who slipped the ball under the goal keeper to secure the Saints 3-2 in the 83rd minute.
  • Ashtyn Gindling scored her first collegiate and had one assist.
  • Bethel Green scored one goal, had one assist, and had three shots on goal.
  • Andjela Popovic had one goal and four shots with three being on goal.
  • First year Ivy Hoffman (Taylor Mill, Ky./Holy, Cross) tallied four shots with three on goal.
  • Junior Olivia Mohs (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) recorded two shots on goal.
  • Junior Emma Fluit (London, Ontario/Medway) tallied one shot on goal.
  • First year goal keeper Natalie Kindt (Dyler, Ind./Munster) had five saves.
