Softball Splits Day Two in Evansville

(EVANSVILLE, IN)-Thomas More University's softball team split in day three of the Blue Bridge Battle with their first DII win over Davis and Elkins 8-5 and fell to McKendree 4-1. The Saints overall record goes to 1-9. 

How they scored
Game 1: Thomas More 8-5
  • Junior transfer Emily Allphin (New Richmond, Ohio/Milford) reached first on an error which scored graduate student Hailey McAdoo (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) to put the Saints up 1-0 in the top of the first. First year Anna Greenwell (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) singled down the right field line to score senior Delaney Kemper (Williamstown, Ky./Williamstown) and junior Josie Wefer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) to extend the Saints lead to 3-0.
  • In the top of the second inning, Josie Wefer doubled down the left field line to send in Hailey McAdoo to make it a 4-0 game. 
  • Davis & Elkins scored two runs in the bottomw of the third inning (4-2).
  • Anna Greenwell singled to right field in the top of the fifth inning to score first year Carly Cramer (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) and Delaney Kemper (6-2).
  • Davis & Elkins scored one run in the bottom of the fifth inning (6-3).
  • Josie Wefer doubled down the left field line in the top of the sixth inning to bring in first year Adi Johnson (Ross, Ohio/Ross) to put the Saints up 7-3. Graduate student Becca Mowen (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) singled up the middle to score Josie Wefer and extend the lead to 8-3.
  • Davis and Elkins scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning (8-5).
Game 2: McKendree 4-1
  • McKendree scored three runs in the top of the first and one run in the top of the third (4-0).
  • Sophomore Sophia Thoma (Cleves, Ohio/Taylor) singled to left center to score first year Sophia Pearson (Fort Recovery, Ohio/Fort Recovery) (4-1) in the bottom of the seventh.

  • Graduate student Annika Gels (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) pitched 7.0 innings, allowing five earned runs off eight hits and struck out six
Game 2:
  • Senior Cassidy King (Hubber Heights, Ohio/Wayne) pitched 1.0 inning, allowing three earned runs off three hits.
  • First year Kylie Ropp (Bellefontaine, Ohio/Kenton Ridge) pitched 5.0 innings, allowing one earned run off five hits and struck out three.
  • First year Olivia Dumm (Williamsport, Ohio/Westfall) pitched 1.0 innings, allowing no runs and not hits and struck out two.
