Chris Norwell have announced Hayden Thomas as the new Run Game Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach on Thursday, February 15th.
Thomas comes to the Saints following a seven-year stint at Wilmington College, where he was most recently serving as the Interim Head Coach. Thomas held the role of Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator for the past three seasons at Wilmington College, along with coaching the Quarterbacks and Tight Ends.
In 2023, Thomas led an offense that finished in the top three of the Ohio Athletic Conference in multiple categories, and achieved historic marks at Wilmington College. Some of those historic marks included; Breaking the single game rushing record in school history by rushing for 384 yards against Wooster College, compiling 658 yards of total offense against Muskingum University, and producing 407.7 total yards per game, along with 31.8 points per game, which neither had been accomplished at Wilmington College since 1999.
Thomas guided his quarterback in 2023 to a record-breaking season as well, which included; the Wilmington single season passing touchdowns (36), and the single game passing touchdown record (9). His quarterback was also responsible for 232 points which was the most in the OAC, and top ten in the country.
Following the 2023 season, Thomas had six offensive players placed on the All-OAC team, along with him name the Assistant Coach of the Year in the OAC.
When Thomas initially joined the staff at Wilmington College in 2017, he was the Assistant Offensive Line Coach and coached the Tight Ends. The next season, he transitioned to coaching the Running Backs and Tight Ends, and then began coaching the Quarterbacks in 2019. Current Saints running back coach, Kyle Barrett, played Quarterback for Thomas during his career at Wilmington College.
A native of Northwest Ohio, Thomas attended Perrysburg High School, and then went on to play college football at Bluffton University, where he played for former Thomas More assistant coach Denny Dorrel, and current Saints Offensive Coordinator, Bryan Moore. The former Offensive Lineman, was a part of an offense that broke a variety of all-time records at Bluffton. Thomas graduated from Bluffton University in 2017, with a degree in sport management, and a minor in coaching. He also met his now wife, Jessie, who played softball for the Beavers. They recently got married in May of 2023.
His family is deeply rooted in coaching, as he has two younger brothers both in the profession. Brady, currently coaches at Bowling Green State University, and Quinn, currently coaches at Marshall University. He is also the nephew of former University of Michigan, and San Diego State Head Coach, Brady Hoke.
