(MUNCIE, IN) – The Thomas More men's volleyball team opened their 2024 season on Wednesday (January, 3rd) in a double head where they faced Ball State University and Wabash College. The Saints dropped the opener against Ball State in straight sets. The Saints bounced back by defeating Wabash in four sets to claim the first victory in the NCAA Division II era for the Saints. Thomas More is 1-1 overall on the season.
Match 1: Ball State defeats Thomas More, 3-0.
- Ball State won the opening set by a score of 25 to 16.
- Ball State went up 2-0 following a 25 to 18 set.
- Ball State took the third set and the match with a score of 25 to 14.
Match 2: Thomas More defeats Wabash, 3-1.
- Thomas More took the opening set by a score of 25 to 20.
- The Saints took set two by a score of 25 to 18.
- Wabash battled back and took set three 28 to 26.
- Thomas More took set four and the match by a score of 25 to 17.
Match 1:
- First year Luke Duncan (Houston, TX / Memorial Senior) led the Saints offensively with 10 kills in the match. He also recorded a team high 8 digs.
- Graduate student Conner Young (Springdale, OH / Princeton) recorded a team high 18 assists in the match along with a service ace and 3 digs.
- Junior Ben Albers (Cincinnati, OH / Elder) recorded 6 kills and 7 digs in the match.
Match 2:
- Luke Duncan again led the Saints offensively with a team high 13 kills in the match to go along with 6 digs and a service ace.
- Conner Young recorded 32 assists in the match and tallied a team high 4 service aces along with 3 digs in the match.
- Junior Caleb Lipscomb (Cincinnati, OH / Walnut Hills) tallied 9 kills, 2 service aces, 2 solo blocks and 4 assisted blocks in the contest.
- Sophomore Dominic Rossi (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler Area) recorded 9 kills in the contest.
- Senior Eli Chambers (Eagle Rock, CA / Eagle Rock) led the Saints in digs with 11.
- First year Taban Kahre (Carmel, IN / Park Tudor) tallied 19 assists in the match.
Thomas More returns to action on Friday (January, 5th) when they travel to Fort Wayne, Indiana to face off against Purdue Fort Wayne. That match is set to begin at 6:00 PM.
