Women's Basketball Drops to Ursuline on the Road

Box Score (PEPPER PIKE, OH)-Thomas More University women's basketball team fell to Ursuline College on Thursday (Jan. 18) evening by a score of 50 to 49. Thomas More falls to an overall record of 10-7 on the season and a Great Midwest Athletic Conference record of 6-4.

• First year Desiree Tandy (Danville, KY / Danville) knocks down a jumper off an assist from first year Rylee Leonard (Sardinia, OH / Eastern Brown) to give the Saints an early lead (2-0).
• A three pointer from senior Alex Smith (Cincinnati, OH /Mercy McAuley) off an assist from senior Maggie Jones (Piner, KY / Simon Kenton) ends an Ursuline run (5-8).
• Senior Mattison Vickers (Covington, Ky./Simon Kenton) drills a three pointer off an assist from sophomore Rylee Turner (Newport, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) to cut the lead down to two (10-12).
• After the first quarter the Saints trailed by four (12-16).
• Senior Kelly Brenner (Cincinnati, OH / Roger Bacon) cut the Arrow lead down to 5 with a three pointer off a pass from Alex Smith (16-21).
• Alex Smith scores 5 straight Saint points including a three pointer off an assist from first year Morgan Hunt (Hollansburg, OH / Tri-Village) to make it a four point game (21-25).
• Rylee Leonard and Rylee Turner each score two points in the closing seconds to make the halftime score 32 to 26 in favor of Ursuline.
• Alex Smith led the Saints with 8 points in the first half to go along with 2 rebounds and an assist.
• Mattison Vickers and Rylee Leonard each recorded 5 points in the opening half.
• Thomas More shot 8-26 (30.8%) from the field and 4-11 (36.4%) from deep in the half.

• Morgan Hunt got the Saints started in in the second half with a bucket to make it a six point game (28-34).
• With 8:03 to go in the third Rylee Leonard scored to make it a 3 point game (31-34).
• Mattison Vickers cuts the lead to two with a layup with three minutes to go in the quarter (36-38).
• Maggie Jones hits a jump shot to make it a one point game heading into the final quarter (39-40).
• Rylee Turner gives the Saints a lead at the start of the fourth with a layup (41-40).
• A Maggie Jones three pointer extends the lead to 3 with 9:21 to go in the game (44-41).
• Mattison Vickers makes a layup with 6 minutes to go to push the lead back to three (46-43).
• With 4:35 to go a Rylee Leonard free throw puts the Saints up 4 (49-45).
• Saints fall by a score of 50 to 49.
• Saints shot 15-49 (30.6%) from the field and 5-15 (33.3%) from the three point line.

• Rylee Leonard led the Saints with 9 points in the game to go with 2 rebounds and an assist.
• Alex Smith recorded 8 points and a team high 8 rebounds in the contest.
• Mattison Vickers scored 9 points in the game with 2 steals and a block.

The Saints return to action on Saturday (Jan 20) when they travel to Painsville, OH to take on Lake Erie College. That game is set to tip-off at 3:00 pm ET
