Saints Tie Kentucky Wesleyan to Open Conference Play

(OWENSBORO, KY) The Thomas More men's soccer team traveled to Kentucky Wesleyan on Wednesday (September 13th), where they tied the Panthers 3 to 3 in the first conference game of the season. This marked the first Great Midwest Athletic Conference match for the program. Thomas More moved to 2-2-1 overall on the season and 0-0-1 in G-MAC play.

How they scored
  • In the 12th minute, Ky. Wesleyan scored to take the early 1-0 lead.
  • Redshirt sophomore Matthaus Buechner (Goshen, OH / Goshen) answered for the Saints in the 26th minute to tie the game. Sophomore Julen van Egmond (Amsterdam, Netherlands / St. Nicolaaslyceum) recorded the assist. 
  • Senior Andrew Nephew (Cincinnati, OH / Landmark Christian) scored his first goal as a Saint to take the lead 2-1 in the 42nd minute. First year Karim Slim (Beirut, Lebanon / College Louise Wegman) and redshirt senior Thomas Wolfe (Marysville, OH / Marysville) each recorded assists on the goal.

  • Graduate student Tim Stolz (Donaueschingen, Germany / Villingen) broke the tie in the 72nd minute with a goal to give Thomas More a 3-2 lead.
